The article analyses how total quality management can be applied in reduction of cost and improving the quality process in educational institutions. An observation has been made that the admissions in institutions are usually directly proportional to the number of learners that graduate and job replacement. Therefore, ensuring that the quality process is being maintained in universities is essential and same time it does not affect the cost of studies (Almudara, 2018). When maintaining the quality of the operations, it is necessary to make sure that the quality process is drawn from the vision, mission, and objectives of the college. The approach will guide the quality department to partner with other departments in the institutions so that the objectives can be achieved.
The high-quality services are usually associated with high cost, yet not every person can be able to afford it. Quality education is essential for the development of the economy, which is contributed by both the poor and wealthy people. Therefore, colleges are expected to provide services which will be affordable to students from different financial backgrounds. There are two categories of quality cost, the first being the cost of attaining the quality of good graduates and the second is the cost of poor quality which is as a result of either internal or external cost. Cost reduction is usually done to decrease the cost and increase the profits. There are various methods that the institutions can use to reduce cost but ensuring that the quality is not affected. The universities are aimed at using all the teaching and non-teaching members so that the goal of quality can be achieved. When a college cannot meet the vision and mission, the quality cannot be met, and the students will have problems in the job market.

It is necessary to establish the factors which cause failure, such as on the factors which contribute to lack of employment. Feedback is thus necessary from different departments such as the alumni department, where the students will report on the factors that hindered securing a job. The feedback that is given can help prospect a solution and evaluating the problem which affects the vision and mission achievements (Yusof & Aspinwall, 2000). The improvement of quality and reduction of cost have to be combined with a program plan to ensure that the objectives have been achieved. Despite the act of securing jobs being an issue caused by the colleges, it can also result from the economy of the nation, thus not an issue of a country entirely. The range of quality satisfaction also has to depend on the quality of the graduates, which means they also have to perform well in their academics.
Quality improvement is not only being conducted in the education system but also the health and manufacturing centers but ensuring that the cost of the services is affordable. In healthcare, there are different methods that can be used such as estimating the propensity score, where the students mostly graduate from a certain college sector. On applying the Total Quality Management (TQM) as a way of reducing cost and maintaining quality, a quality process has to be applied. TQM can also help achieve the efficiency, effectiveness, flexibility, and competitiveness in a company. There are different processes that have to be undergone for the cost to be reduced and quality achieved.
The workers have to be involved totally in the quality process. The skills of the employees will be required, and they will learn how they are expected to take accountability during the process. New strategic thinking should be pursued which will help establish methods of reducing the cost of the services. Prevention should be given more attention instead of correcting (Almudara, 2018). The root cause of an issue will be established or factors that cause it, so that it can be prevented, instead of waiting for an issue and correcting it. A balanced approach can also be adopted, where the expenses of the organization are reduced and making sure that no additional costs are made within the financial year, to avoid adding cost. In the process improvement methods, it is necessary to apply structured practice, where all the expenses will be structured and ensuring that no extra cost is incurred during the quality improvement. Despite the methods chosen for improving the quality and same time reducing cost, each department has to play its part, as it is the only way the quality process will be achieved.
Reflection
Improving the quality of education and managing the costs is essential for economic development. Through the total quality management approach, universities will be able to provide educational services to students in different financial backgrounds without affecting the quality. Any irrational methods which result in increasing the cost of the services such as superfluous wastes should be avoided. The removal of unwanted steps in the institutions will also reduce the cost. Problem analysis should be conducted from time to time since it is better to prevent rather than correct an issue when it had already done damage. The strategies can also be applied in other areas such as health institutions.
