Training, in any organization, is crucial because it helps employees become more goal oriented and it ensures that they are more productive to the organization. Career development, on the other hand, focuses on the identity of the employee, and how their personal attributes influence their productivity. Career development is facilitated by a person’s ambition to achieve a certain goal in their line of work or towards what they would want to become as far as a certain career goes. Career development could also involve changing jobs from time to time depending on the skills of an individual.

The key difference between career development and training lies in the timing, whereby training is said to be a short term process that normally takes place at the beginning of a career while career development is a continuous process that focuses on the building of knowledge and competence (S, 2018). Training is also a process that every new employee must go through for them to acquire job skills while career development is meant for all round development of an employee.

Career development is more likely to increase retention in any organization especially where it focuses on specific career development strategies. Career development is one of the best ways of retaining the employees who are good at their job and this also ensures their loyalty. When employees see that the organization values career development, they are sure that their training skills will get better if they stay within the same organization for a little bit longer (Cascio, 2015). This ensures maximum productivity from the worker due to satisfaction and it also helps in the achievement of organizational goals.

In the Bible, training and career development have been highlighted in the book of Job. Adequate training and the will to grow career wise is important for any employee to remain relevant in their organization. ‘For He repays man according to his work, And makes man to find a reward according to his way’(Job 34:11).This is a verse in the Bible that calls on workers to put effort in their work before seeking blessings of career development and growth from God.
