Introduction
Tri-Community YMCA organization was established in 1882 to strive to meet the health, fitness, and social challenges of children and their families. Services offered by the organization include pre-school and after-school child care, health and fitness, rehabilitation, youth program, older adult services, swimming, camps and family activities. The organization also has an outdoor playground that children use during non-program hours. The focus of the organization is on healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development.
Objectives of the YMCA
The programs offered by YMCA aim to attain its objective of strengthening and supporting the family life. The objective is achieved by the provision of comprehensive and supervised care to have a positive impact in the lives of children and their families and to improve the quality of their lives. The quality of life of children and that of their families is achievable through healthy living. Healthy living entails more than just being physically active. A person needs to have a balanced spirit, mind, and body to have to live healthily. The YMCA gives children and their families an opportunity to challenge themselves by learning new skills and hobbies, bringing loved ones closer through the numerous activities that are family centered, and by fostering friendship connections.

Families are offered opportunities to build stronger bonds, by learning to overcome social, economic, and educational challenges presented to them. Parents are also able to achieve a greater work/life balance as the program of after school-daycare. The program provides a safe and supportive atmosphere that bridges the gap between school and home for children with working parents. Parent's night out program ensures that parents have an opportunity to have a break and go and enjoy an evening out. On family nights, parents will be able to share, communicate and strengthen their relationships, play pool games, and participate in family fitness. Parents will drop their children at the organization which will take care of them and ensures that they have their best time. Children will enjoy swimming, eat snacks, have plenty of play time with other kids, and even watch a movie.
Goals
The YMCA focuses on fostering family relationship, and their goals are family-centered. One of the goals is to ensure that children have a secure, safe, and loving environment. Once the children are safe and occupied, parents will have the opportunity to receive training and education from the YMCA team of experts. Parents receive training on personal wellness from an experienced trainer who ensures that they meet their set goals of living healthier. There are also water exercises and adult swim lessons tailored even to meet the needs of those with disabilities or rehabilitation. Group physical activity classes for adults are fun and most importantly provide lessons on how people can function more effectively as a spouse or a parent.
The second goal is to maximize a child’s social, emotional, physical and academic development. The Child development center of the YMCA offers a suitable learning environment for children. The development of children is done holistically through the provision of a healthy place that enables the children to explore and experiment with their lives through trial and error. Children absorb knowledge, skills, and essential values in life by observing everything that is happening around them. The values and skills that a child learns during early brain development influence the quality of life and future success of a child. The YMCA programs are child-oriented and have qualified personnel who are knowledgeable in cognitive, physical and social development of kids. A child brought at YMCA will, therefore, have an opportunity to learn values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility. A child will also be in a position to learn foundational skills enabling him/ her to be self-reliance and build healthy and trusting relationships.
The third goal is to improve the quality of relationships between parents and their children. Family programs serve a purpose of educating families and providing avenues where children and parents interact. Having a great family time strengthens bonds between family members as it brings loved ones closer together. The family unit is in a position to deepen their relationship with one another and improve their health through nutrition and recreation/ family wellness program. Parents and their children can do recreational activities such as cooking and arts or camping together which help them live healthier and make lifetime memories.
Philosophy
The philosophy of YMCA focuses on the development of individuals by meeting their needs effectively by emphasizing their social, economic, physical, and academic growth. The programs are designed and tailored to offer opportunities which ensure that a child develops to his/her highest potential. The programs encourage children to make decisions right decisions and become responsible in life. Children have an opportunity to interact with their peers through games such as the motorsport thus enabling them to build friendships formed on the bedrock of mutual respect, self-respect, and self-control.
Teachers of YMCA are trained on ways to meet emotional needs of every child under their care by providing an atmosphere of security, warmth, and love. Lessons on morally acceptable and social behaviors and respect for the environment are offered to children to ensure that they become responsible members of the society capable of bringing positive change. Children also have an opportunity to interact with the external environment by playing outside while under close supervision. The "hands-on" experience learned by interacting with the external environment acts as a physical and emotional outlet for children. Interacting with the environment enables children to develop, learn and figure out how the world works through trial and error.
