The concept of leadership pervades the different structures and organizational practices, consequently shaping people’s understanding of the nature of organized actions. This concept and leadership practice, including the different forms of control and direction, are infused in the belief that an organization cannot exist without a leader. In this case, a considerable number of organizations are paralyzed by situations characterized by the feeling of immobilization and disorganization primarily because the members feel that they do not have a leader. On the other hand, some organizations are plagued by the opposing situation, in which many of the organizational members aspire to be leaders. In the light of the need to assess the ability of leaders in an organization, the famous personality selected is Donald Trump, who has successfully led the Trump Organization. Donald Trump has succeeded in running the Trump Organization for several years, making him one of the most successful business leaders in the contemporary society.

The Trump Organization is a private entity that owns several golf courses, office buildings, as well as hotels. The organization also engages in the management as well as licensing agreements. Donald Trump, the current U.S. president, was the principle owner of the organization from the year 1971 to 2017. The organization was founded in the year 1923 and has grown to become one of the biggest brands with a considerable number of partnerships as well as constituent companies (Craft, 2018). Given the success of the Trump Organization, it is possible to determine that Donald Trump has been able to implement management strategies that have worked towards ensuring the achievement of this success. In most cases, the successful actions of the organization can be seen to rest in the synchrony between the development of an action plan as well as the appeal for direction between the leader’s actions and the responsiveness of the organization’s followers.

One of the most dominant management concepts is the management style implemented by leaders in an organization. The dominating management styles that influence organizational behavior are inclusive of top-down management and bottom-up management (Sims, 2002). Most companies operate in some kind of top-down management, with the Trump Organization being one of them. Donald Trump, who served as the organization’s chairperson and president, can be considered as a powerful and knowledgeable individual that made suitable decisions, most of which influenced the success of the organization. When making decisions from the top, organizational leaders should communicate the expectations of the employees and the objectives to be achieved in a clear way. In this light, a strong leader can ensure that the managers take charge in the quickest and most effective way to assign tasks to the different organizational teams.

While at the helm of managing the organization, Trump used autocratic leadership, during which he made independent conclusions that assisted in the improvement of the organization’s business systems. The conclusions he made have been handed down to the employees within the different companies, who have been required to accomplish the predetermined goals (Sims, 2002). Some of the lower level managers in the companies within the Trump Organization might have had to provide input into the most appropriate way through which the predetermined objectives could be accomplished, but they did not have the authority that could enable them to change organizational policies without the approval of the organizational leaders, Trump included.

The persona of a leader is also another factor that can influence the success of an organization, including the organizational behavior. According to Susan Hodgkinson (2005), individuals with strong brands score moderately or highly in their persona. Hodgkinson (2005) further indicates that the persona of an individual is vital in organizations that value service providers that focus on consumers, value teamwork, and integrity. Leaders in such organization are aware that their personas affect their value exchanges, which means that they can participate in the active management of their personas to ensure that they continually succeed in their ventures. Ronal Riggio (2016) supports this notion by indicating that Trump has a strong leader persona, a factor that has made it possible for him to achieve his desires by using the resources at his disposal, his connections, and power.

According to Riggio (2016), research on leadership indicates that followers in an organization are likely to follow a leader that they consider their prototype in terms of what they desire for in a leader. In this case, they appear to consider this leader as their role model. Most of their followers admire their confidence, optimism, and efficiency in executing their duties. Trump displays the identified traits, which can be referred to guide his success in business and in leadership. Even though effective leadership is a complicated phenomenon for the understanding of a considerable number of people, the persona of an effective leader can assist in communicating a sense of efficiency. Trump communicates his beliefs to the people clearly, which is a factor that many people use to indicate that he is an effective individual. The illusion of efficacy that he creates has significantly enabled him to succeed in business and in his quest for the presidency, which he has achieved successfully.

The other fundamental management style that could be discussed in relation to Trump’s style of managing his affairs is chaotic leadership. According to Margot Cairnes (2011), chaotic leadership is primarily attached to successful approaches that could be implemented for the realization of successful business. This approach works well as a management style. In this light, a chaotic leader is one that provides his or her employees with the power to make decisions that can lead to the realization of organizational success (Cairnes, 2011). The fundamental role of the management in such types of organizations is to develop the objectives of the company, after which the goals are communicated to the employees for execution and achievement. In such an organization, the senior members in a team mentor and guide their employees. Although this management style might support the successful achievement of the organization’s goals, it does not have the structure employed by other management styles. Regardless of the limitation, organizations dealing with the development and implementation of innovative ideas in the contemporary society have shown that the management style can assist in the achievement of organizational success. Such organizations provide their employees with the freedom to come up with innovative ideas that could be implemented to achieve this success.

Apart from the implementation of appropriate leadership styles, the success of a leader is one that has the ability to solve existing problems in an efficient way. In every confrontation, or when faced with an unpredictable and difficult issue, the tone set at the onset determines the solution that could be derived or considered when looking for ways to deal with the situation. A good leader should be able to act rationally and reasonably when dealing with the issue (Sims, 2002). Trump’s show, “the apprentices,” could be used as an example to indicate that mental preparedness is vital for doing away with the assumption of guilt once a problem has occurred when implementing organizational activities. When solving the problems, using facts is necessary since communicating feelings would be inappropriate because they are less factual. Besides using facts, the ability of a leader to communicate effectively is essential for ensuring the successful execution of an activity or role within the organization (Sims, 2002). Trump appears to be able to communicate clearly, meaning that his employees and the managers in his company can understand what is expected of them, which is a factor that influences the success of his organizations.

In conclusion, Trump can be considered as one of the most successful business personalities and leaders in the contemporary society. Different lessons could be derived from his style of leadership, his persona, and the communication strategies he employs, to determine that he is suitably positioned to achieve organizational success and to influence the realization of a positive organizational behavior. The traits that leaders could borrow from Trump’s persona include his high confidence levels, his optimism, as well as his sense of self-efficacy. These traits cannot only influence the leader’s followers positively, but they can also drive them to work towards achieving the goals of the organization. On the other hand, the implementation of appropriate leadership style within an organization is also an element that should be considered when striving to derive the full participation of the employees towards achieving the objectives of the organization. Clear and effective communication is also a vital component that should be implemented in an organization since the process will do away with any form of miscommunication, thereby making it possible for the employees to perform their duties effectively.
