Obsessive-compulsive disorder and anorexia nervosa are some of the types of psychological disorders. While obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder, anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder. Causes of these Disorders
Obsessive-compulsive disorder
This disorder is caused by a change in an individual’s brain functions or a change body's chemistry. Moreover, an individual may fall victim to OCD owing to several disposing genetic factors. Finally, some environmental factor such as infections may trigger OCD episodes. It is important to note that several risk factors can increase the chances of individuals getting OCD. Anorexia nervosa
Anorexia nervosa, which is an eating disorder, is caused by environmental, biological and personality factors. The media propagates the idea that thin people are ideal which may force some people to trim down their size. Childhood trauma can also cause anorexia nervosa. Irregular hormone functions and genetics are some of the biological factors associated with anorexia nervosa (Eating Disorder Hope).
Helping individuals with OCD and Anorexia Nervosa
Individuals suffering from these two disorders can be helped to manage or treat this disorder. One way of helping these individuals is to help them achieve a positive self-image, which becomes bruised once they develop these disorders. Moreover, it is important to advise these individuals to seek medical help, since these disorders can be treated successfully. In the case of anorexia nervosa, an individual will be required to undergo a comprehensive medical nutritional and therapeutic treatment to have a full recovery. On the other hand individual with OCD will undergo behavioral therapy to be ridden all the anxiety triggers. Of importance here is encouraging such individuals so that they do not get a relapse.
