Unions are important for the protection of employees’ rights and they help in the negotiation for better employment terms through collective bargaining. For that reason, I feel more inclined to unions than I did in my earlier discussions. Unions help in preventing and resolving disputes in the workplace especially when there is an unhealthy working relationship between human resource department and the employees. 

The new trend within the past few years is a shift from the old strategies of conflict and confrontation by unions; to a more relaxed course geared towards cooperation and collaboration. When employees are unionized, the organization negotiates labour agreements with the respective union. The agreement becomes the basis for the relationship between the union and the organization. The items described in the agreement are the basis for collective bargaining in matters regarding training, wages, discipline, and benefits. Unions are incorporating technologies in improving their services and effectiveness. They use social media to mobilize their members and communicate their actions. They also have a database where information about their members is stored for easy communication.

Case No. 2741 which was a complaint by the Transport Workers Union of America AFL-CIO (TWUA) and the Transport Workers Union of the Greater New York, AFL-CIO, Local 100 (Local 100) against the Government of the United States; the allegation was that the state legislation barred strikes in the public sector, it restricted the right to have a collective bargaining and it imposed severe penalties to workers in the public sector. The decision was that it was important for employers and trade unions to have collective bargaining power that makes an effort to reach an agreement (Swearengen, 2010). The judgment also stated that negotiations should be constructive and genuine to foster confidence between the two parties. 

The email assignments were beneficial because they offered a valuable and efficient way of communication. The use of email led to a richer learning experience since it provided an extra medium of communication. It was easier and more convenient to reach you whenever I had questions and wanted to submit assignments making it effective.
