Limitations
The USA is involved more in the private sector than in intermodal transportation. It participates in the production of nuclear power, safety, and environmental regulations, setting energy goals and R&D funding. All those mentioned hinder it from making innovations in the intermodal transportation. Some governments in other countries like Russia, France, China and South Korea have adopted nuclear production; thus, making it a point of interest. Apparently, the US military department looks at fighting wars of today and in the future, which shows that a lot of concentration is onto nuclear production than any other thing.The DoD is investing a lot in research however it is falling for the shift towards the commercial sector barring innovations ( Goldemberg, 2009) . Besides, the federal government has contributed to research for purposes of technology. The creation of new technologies as a result of funding is developing the industry’s development.

In a nut shell, intermodal transportation involves transporting freight or passengers by different modes of transportation through terminals explicitly defined for them.The USA is crucial in making innovations for intermodal transportation because of its experience.
