For over a long period of time, America has been receiving a large population of immigrants including the colonialists, students and economists. This immigration had always been a controversial issue as it is both beneficial and also threatening to the natives of the country. America therefore, through its administration decided to set up legislation and policies regarding immigration some that affected most of the people who had migrated illegally. The high number of immigration which was illegal was causing a lot of problems to the country’s interests.

In the recent past, the US government had introduced a zero-tolerance immigration policy that saw separation of children from their parents who were seeking asylum in the country. This policy was identified only by the locals or the Democrats who had enacted it. The policy criminalized any person specifically adults, and were arrested and taken to detention centers on the grounds of being terrorists (Gibson, 2018). Since children were too young to be charged with criminal activities, they were taken away to other camps far from their parents and this was a torture to young children and infants.

During the period of separation policy, around 2000 children had been separated from their parents within a period of two months and this was considered as a disaster by the human rights activists (Cheng, 2018). This number had increased to a total of 12,800 by September in 2017 which was a huge number and could not fit in the camps which were mostly in Texas in a desert. The separation policy had been enacted by some Democrats in which case President Donald Trump did not recognize it but he insisted that such law did not exist according to his knowledge,

The policies on detention of families and separation of children from their parents saw most children being used as scapegoats to punish the illegal immigrants who were their parents and this had adverse effects to the children (Bochenek, 2018). The detention of the families had serious effects which were long lasting especially to the children if their immigration reasons were devastating. Most of the families had fled from their war-torn countries but instead of being offered safety and good conditions to live, they were detained in detention camps that were in bad conditions.

President Trump on June 20, 2018, gave an order that brought to an end the separation policy. This policy was ended, and those children separated from their parents and relatives were reunited as the administration issued the orders of reunification. The children did not need to suffer as they were innocent and therefore, the administration would not separate them with their families during detention before seeking asylum. Although some of the administrators tried to justify the reasons for separation as being for the better care of the children, but this was considered as child abuse by humanitarians.
