Mass shootings have become a prevalent issue in the recent decade. Evidence suggests that with each mass shooting, there is a 15% growth in gun bills that are presented within the country (Luca, Malhotra & Poliquin, 2019). The society can improve laws on gun control to remedy the mass shootings in the USA. Policymakers can create stringent policies that will articulate clearly on the bans they impose (Spitzer, 2012). Such policies can include a ban on the use and manufacturing of assault weapons. They can also ban the use of high-capacity magazines that can facilitate the killing of more individuals during a mass shooting.
The U.S. government spends the least amount of money researching other causes of mortality. The government could also allocate more money to the CDC research on gun violence (Rostron, 2018). This will facilitate in finding innovative ways to reduce mass shootings. American citizens can also form groups that will lobby for new laws and policies that mitigate gun violence (Follman, Aronsen, & Pan, 2012). Gun sellers should ensure they are licensed, and if they are not able to meet this requirement, they could run universal background checks on their customers (Metzl & MacLeish, 2015). This will help to reduce the instances of selling guns to homicidal individuals or felons and violent individuals.
