Lesson Plan

Pre-Planning

National Standards: (middle & high school – endorsement specific)

CTE-LPSS.68.LAW.01 : Demonstrate an understanding of the law enforcement services career pathway (CPLAMS, 2019).

CTE-LPSS.68.LAW.02 : Identify components of criminal investigations (CPLAMS, 2019).

Academic Foundations/Standards or Benchmarks:

The academic foundations associated with the standards reflect on enhancing understanding of the law enforcement services with the intention of having to create a career pathway for individuals that may intend to come into law enforcement.

Goal:

The goal of lesson is centered on improved understanding on matters associated with law enforcement. In this goal, the focus is on trying to build interest among students with the sole focus being towards pushing more students towards law enforcement services.

Behavioral Objectives:

The main behavioral objective that the lesson seeks to achieve it to change the attitude that students hold towards law enforcement. The lesson seeks to expound further on what it would mean for students to embrace law enforcement as a career that seeks to build on their respective career positions.

Integration of Language Arts and other subject areas :

The lesson will integrate language arts by seeking to use different aspects of language as key foundations when engaging with the students. In other words, this would mean that the lesson will seek to define the value placed on interactive technology while considering the influence that this would have towards integrating mathematics.

Differentiation Strategies:

The main differentiation strategy that will be considered as part of the lesson will reflect solely on the use of technology. Interactive technologies seek to create a front through which to ensure that students are able to engage with the educators as part of the learning process with the aim being towards getting what is expected of them (Greenwald et al., 2017).

Safety considerations:

The lesson will consider safety by highlighting the negative impacts associated with misuse of the technology, which would create a high level of dependence on the technology. Taking into account this safety consideration will help create a positive environment within which the technology will be able to work seamlessly.

Resources:

The main reason that will be used as part of this lesson is the interactive technology. The technology will be selected based on its ability to build on positive integration of mathematics as part of the CTE lesson touching on law enforcement.

Equipment & Materials:

The students will be expected to carry notebooks and pens to help them take relevant notes with regard to the information that it being passed along through the CTE lesson.

Prerequisite:

One prerequisite condition that much be reached is that the students must be exposed to the interactive technology beforehand, which would provide them with a clear understanding of how they ought to approach usage of the technology.

Implementation

Time Estimates:

The implementation of this lesson is expected to take a maximum period of 2 weeks. In the 2 weeks, the students will be expected to go through a process allowing them to engage with the interactive technology, as well as, improving on their abilities to learn effectively on how they would use the technology.

Motivator:

The students will be introduced to the lesson through the use of technology. The students will be more excited to use technology, which will play a key role in maximizing on their motivation with regard to the lesson.

Procedures:

The procedures adopted as part of the lesson will be created as the lesson proceeds. That ill be attributed to the fact that the teacher will be in a position allowing him or her to determine the best possible approaches based on the motivation of the students.

Closure:

At the end of the lesson, the students will be given an opportunity of having to ask any questions that they would have with regard to what they have learnt. Additionally, the students will also be given an opportunity of commenting on specific areas that the teacher would be able to improve when dealing with future students.

Reflection

The main aspect of the lesson that can be considered to have gone well is that the lesson stayed on course towards achievement of the set out goal. It can be noted that the lesson was able to achieve its intended goal, which was improve understanding on matters associated with law enforcement. On the other hand, what can be considered to have failed is the fact that a majority of the students did not have the motivation that was expected in maximizing on their engagement in the lesson. Stephens (2015) points to the importance of motivation among students arguing that it plays a critical role towards enhancing their abilities to engage in a given lesson, which would serve as a guarantee that they achieve the best possible outcomes. In this case, the teacher failed to build motivation among the students leading to a situation where the students did not engage as per expectations.

One of the key aspects that would change to improve on the lesson next time is how the students are introduced to the use of the interactive technology. Although some of the students tend to have a serious connection to the technology, it would be essential to consider those students that tend to lag behind on matters of technology. By creating a conducive environment for each student, the teacher will be in a rather effective position of having to ensure that the lesson goals are achieved. Additionally, this would also mean that the lesson would achieve the best possible outcome in creating a rather effective platform through which to deliver on what is expected for individual students.

After the lesson, each of the students was taken through a series of tests to determine whether indeed the lesson objectives had been achieved. From the results, it can be argued that indeed the students were able to achieve the set objectives considering that it became somewhat easy for them to use mathematics as part of the CTE lesson. The results indicated that a majority of the students enjoyed the lesson in a significant way considering that it sought to build on their respective capacities to maximize on the way they make use of mathematics when dealing with CTE lessons.

Some of the students showed difficulties in learning, especially in the use of technology. However, this was not considered as a major challenge considering that most of these students were able to catch up with the others within no time. In trying to improve the situation, the teacher was able to come up with a comprehensive approach through which to ensure that the students were allowed to learn at their individual paces. That means that the entire period of the lesson reflected on ensuring that each of the students achieves the set goals.
