LMS range from managing training and educational records to software for distributing online college courses over the Internet. Learning institutions use LMS to deliver online courses for use by those who cannot attend classes within the institutions. LMS has the ability to produce reports that help stakeholders to manage and improve the lining experience for students and those of their instructors.

LMS ought to have an appealing appearance to make it more user-friendly. It should be better developed in a manner that suits its users and the administrators. This better designed LMS should be in better poised to increase its usability. A clearly understandable LMS makes it easy for its users to access. The LMS should be able to clearly outline course titles for easy comprehension by the students and the staff. It is greatly important to get requirements determined with the closest attention possible being paid to detail before engaging a LMS provider, such as as any changes to the generic LMS will come at a cost to the administration depending on the complexity of its design. The LMS is not supposed to change its versions often because the users might experience problems adapting to the frequent changes and this may also lead to incurring extra costs leading to issues with the stability of programs within the institution. An LMS app is a requirement for the users to be able to access the system using their mobile phones in a convenient way (Kats, 2013).

3

A successful LMS in a learning institution depends on various factors other than the technology involved. Improving the central resource will enable students to have a large number of systems in place. Using your LMS as the central location will point different departments to the right system and as such their need specificity will increase uptake and ensure that the LMS operates effectively and efficiently to serve all the departments. This will enable all students and the staff to get access to information in a reliable manner. Further, gamification and rewards for good performance makes it easy to create games and incentives for students and staff .This will improve the general performance of the learning management system. Rewards will motivate students and the staff creating a healthy competitive environment (Kats, 2010).

Installing the LMS in mobile phones will make it easily accessible to the staff and to the students since mobile phones are easy to use and easily accessible. The student and the staff can easily access learning materials conveniently without undue technicalities. Hosting social learning forums and chat rooms in LSM will encourage students and staff to share ideas and help each in handling their questions. LSM will provide an ideal place for these platforms hence creating a collaborative learning experience and improve staff experience. Developing mandatory training on the LMS will improve its performance in the learning institutions. This will inculcate a culture of the use of the LMS among the students and the staff since they will get used to taking lessons online besides increasing the accessibility of the system (Dias, Diniz, & Hadjileontiadis,2013).

4 LMS should provide analytical report for students and staff in order to better understand student progress by monitoring their activity and especially their interactions. Analytics are pieces of information that help learning management system users improve on their work. Analytical information will help the students, teachers and general faculty to make better choices that lead to an improved learning experience. Analytics are important in giving quantitative information based on the LMS users’ activities in forms that allow improvement in learning experience. A lot of information about the user’s progress can be collected in the LMS. LMS can give reports on multi-modal activities that will help in deep learning of student abilities improving their performance outcome. This is because student needs to know where they are up to in a course and what they have to do to improve their general performance. LMS should give reports on chat rooms and provide mandatory learning so as to encourage interactions among the students and the staff. Determining the level at which the student interact will help them in improving their communication skills.

LMS should give participatory reports to help the teachers know which students are participating and those that need to be pushed a bit further. Students could be failing to participate due to a number of reasons. Therefore, they may need to be encouraged to withdraw from a particular course and re-enroll later.

Conclusion

The learning management system is important in enhancing performance through tracking and reporting information touching on students and staff. Progress of the students can be tracked, recorded for future review, and users could register for multiple courses. Administrators are able to access the records of participating students and analyze areas that need improvement. Using a learning management system offers a centralized source of learning which ensures that training, performance, and development of the users is monitored efficiently. The system enables its users to access information at any given time. LMS has been of great help in improving the general performance of its users.
