What was your favorite topic?
The most interesting topic for me was Vaccines and Antimicrobial drugs. The study of vaccines is helpful in determining how the body responds to antibiotic resistance to infections and antibiotic usage. For instance, the study of vaccines revealed the impact of the body’s antibiotic resistance to diseases such as influenza. The focus on antimicrobial resistance follows the global concern on the inability of some vaccines to provide the much-needed treatment to common illnesses; hence, the need for research. On the other hand antimicrobial drugs treat every day gastrointestinal, respiratory and skin illnesses. More so the study of vaccines and antimicrobial drug helps in appreciating new efforts in drug research.
What was your least favorite topic? Why?
` The least favorite topic was Innate and Adaptive immunity. Presently, scientists are focusing on how vaccines prevent microbial resistance. Their concern is that the body’s natural immunity is unable to fight viruses and bacteria. This problem has been caused by the misuse and over-use of antibiotics. Therefore scientists find it inevitable to vaccinate both animals and humans to prevent the use of antibiotics. The topic was least interesting as this does not provide solutions to antimicrobial resistance but the topic on Vaccines and Antimicrobial drugs does.

If a friend wanted to take this course, what advice would you give to them?
The Microbiology course is important because it introduces one to the global problem of antimicrobial resistance. More-so, it elaborates the issue and provides a solution by using vaccines to boost the body’s immunity. Thus, this knowledge is helpful in making decisions about public health. In that way vaccines play a significant role in reducing antimicrobial resistance and bacterial infections. However, the only challenge in the production of vaccines is that they are not designed to directly combat resistance, but lessen the effects of virus and bacteria. Therefore this course helps one to understand that people have to use medication properly when administered by their physician.
