The possible reasons for the United States low voter turnout have led to a lot of research. The United States is currently ranked 31st out of the 35 countries with the lowest voter turnout during elections. I have discussed a few reasons related to low voter turnout in this discussion. The 2014 general election's voter turnout is considered to have been the second lowest after 1944 elections. The reason that research done by various research bodies such as the New York Public Research Group and the Wall street journal showed that one of the key reason was that many people have lost faith in the electoral system. The anticipation of the long queues and failed technological systems that delays the process of voting played a key role. This was evident in states such as New York and parts of Washington DC. Other reasons include voter registration deadlines and problems specific to different states. A Harvard University study also found that the democratization of voting has also been a reason for low voter turnout. Belgium is considered the country with the highest voter turnout, something that is owed to the mandatory voting practice exercise in the country.
The intervention or solution as laid out by the Center for Election Innovation and Research is dependent on the states. There are however general actions that I would advocate to improve voter turnout in the United States. The adoption of a technical electoral system that doesn't necessarily queuing has been a good proposal and will certainly work if adopted. This because of the fact that research shows that at least 30% of voters will not turn out to vote because of the long ques. Injection of more resources can also increase the number of polling station hence increase voter turnout. Other solutions include voter sensitization and legislating of voting laws that take away voting as being democratic to a mandatory exercised as seen in the Belgium case.

Voter turnout has been a serious challenge in several elections held in the United States. Many voters have cited reasons such as transparency in the electoral system, long queue and other problems affiliated to states.
