There are different views of the book of Revelation, which include idealist, preterist, historicist and futurist. The idealist view shows that the book of revelation is about the ongoing battle through time between God and Satan. One can agree with this view since it applies to all periods of the church history. However, it is weakened by the fact that it does not show fulfilment of prophecies in revelation. The preterist view indicates that these prophecies were already fulfilled in AD 70 when the Jerusalem Temple fell. This view is highly disagreeable since the end victory is not clear in the fall of the Jerusalem temple. Moreover, John’s visions indicated the complete destruction of Satan contrary to the preterist view where his reign is destroyed. The historic view shows that the prophecies are to be fulfilled throughout, from the beginning of the church to the end of time. It is slightly unacceptable since it allows for different interpretations. The futurist view teaches that the prophecies are to be fulfilled in the future including the Rapture, seven years of tribulation and Christ’s millennial rule on earth (Zukeran, 2009) .
Question 2:
Most interpretations do not get much into the physical second coming of Jesus Christ where he comes for the church, that is, the righteous. Another view is about the resurrection of the dead when the end time comes. The book of Revelation does not discuss much on this view. Moreover, there is the belief that true believers are supposed to live with God in heaven in eternal glory while sinners will go to hell for eternal torment (Zukeran, 2009) .
