Being a doctor is one of the most technical careers due to the complex nature of the course. For one to be referred to as a doctor, he or she must have gone through a medical school and upon completion have been awarded a professional graduate degree. However, being a doctor entails a lot other than a qualification from a medical school. Such includes ethics and mode of conduct in place of work, the characteristics portrayed by an individual and the perception of the doctor. The paper is an argumentative essay on what it entails for one to be referred to as a doctor. The article will discuss two documented claims that are in support of the fallacy-free argument, and one documented counterclaim on my position that is legitimate and someone has made a counter position on the issue. More so, there will be a discussion on a reasonably documented response towards the counterclaim. In the end, the essay will give a conclusion that will summarize the argument. The argument is scenarios is that an individual can be referred to as a doctor. 

According to Brown, there is need to understand the reason as to why some new doctors feel that their training is relevant in connection to their professional development while others believe that it is a stage that doctors endure and survive. Brown established that the perception of new doctors relies on the support they receive from seniors. Therefore, there is a need for new doctors to perceive each stage of their career positively ( Brown, J., Chapman, and Graham, 2007) . Hence, for an individual in the medical professional to be referred to as a doctor, he or she needs to perceive all aspect of their training positively. Such is vital as the research by Brown will assist in changing the support that new doctors receive form their seniors making the person going through the medical training to be referred to as a doctor to train in a positive direction.

Equally, the website on steps of becoming a doctor is in total support of the argument as it provides six steps that one must go through to be referred to as a doctor. The measures include; earning a bachelor's degree, taking a test, earning a medical degree, completing the residency program, obtaining a license and finally a certified medical career (“ Steps to Become a Doctor ,” n.d) The website covers the career roadmap to being referred to as a doctor. Therefore, for one to be referred to as a doctor, the six steps must be incomplete and must be prepared for the long journey ahead. A documented article by Finlay is in support of the actions stipulated on the website. However, Finlay adds that for one to be referred to as a doctor, there is more to it other than medical education. Their article highlights that the influence that a one has on the thinking, emotions and intellectual capabilities is what makes one different from other individuals in the society and thus can be referred to as a doctor ( Finlay and Fawzy, 2001) . 

A documented article by Dornan, Pearson, and Carson counters with the above-stated argument. From the article they stipulate that for one to be referred to as a doctor a medical degree award is not the qualification; instead, it is the characteristics that one portrays in places of work that make him or her a good doctor ( Dornan et al., 2015) . Being competent is not a guarantee for one to be referred to as a good doctor. One can be skilled enough, but lack of character and positive emotions disqualifies him or her from being referred to as a good doctor. Therefore, one can only be referred to as a good doctor by the patients and other stakeholders. Such is vital in validating medical professionals as to whether they can be referred to as doctors ( Dornan et al., 2015) . Thus, the argument by Doran makes individuals understand what a good doctor is entailing, and the information can be used to train medical students on how to become a good doctor. 

A book by Kumar offers a reasonable documented response to the counterclaim that a medical degree award is not a reason enough for one to be referred to a doctor. The books talk of what is ethically right that will make one be referred to a doctor. Kumar (2018) responds to the counterclaim by the stipulation that an award is not a qualification; instead, ethics is what is crucial as it will create a good relationship between the medical professional and other stakeholders in the medical field. The book is relevant in making a reasonable response to the counterclaim as Kumar is a well-known surveyor in the therapeutic area and have a better understanding of the medical matters. Thus, being a doctor entail more than just attending and graduating from a medical school. How one will relate with other especially the patients is primary. Equally, the relationship with other workers within the medical institution is essential. 

In conclusion, there are some contributors for one to be referred to as a doctor. According to Brown the positive perception of new doctors when they undergo each stage of their training is what qualifies them to be referred to as doctors. The article by Brown is a research, and the findings can be put in use to make adjustments on the kind of support seniors give to new doctors to stay positive. There are six steps that one goes through to be referred to as a doctor. Such is in accordance to a website on the steps of becoming a doctor. An article by Finlay is in support of the argument that a medical degree is a qualification of one to be referred to as a doctor . Finlay does so by the stipulation that the influence of a medical doctor of the way of thinking and intellectual capability is an added advantage for one to be referred to as a doctor. However, Dornan possesses a counterclaim by saying that the characteristics of an individual are what makes him or her be referred to as a doctor by patients and other stakeholders and not education qualifications only. Kumar's book gives a reasonable response to the counterclaim stipulating that ethics is critical for one to be referred to as a doctor as it will determine their relationship with other individuals in the place of work. Based on the discussion above, ethics and characters of an individual are what maker others refer to him or her as a good doctor in addition to educational qualification and license to permit one to operate as a professional doctor.
