The Ashford University library has numerous information resources that have been helpful to me over my study period, especially when completing my assignments. I have become more familiar with the library web because I always conduct most of my academic searches there, except when my professor provides an alternative procedure for a given task. However, I have had a few challenges in accessing my target material through the search function within the library database. When searching for some particular content in the database, I many at times got multiple options which did not give satisfactory information based on my research topic, a somewhat frustrating experience. However, after taking the Threshold Achievement Test for Information Literacy, I have been able to understand how to get through this concern. I have realized that I need to break down my research questions into keywords that expand my scope of the search and provide relevant information. Additionally, the guidance from the librarians has helped improve my research skills at the library.
The Ashford University Library has greatly improved my experience in conducting research, due to its large content database, which comprises eBooks, journals, newspapers, videos and films, and encyclopedias. The multimedia research tutorials have also been helpful in my research and studies since I have been able to learn new skills and ideas in a film and interactive presentation. Because of these library tutorials, I have learned to use the library database, while discovering how to access appropriate academic articles for my assignments and research studies. Moreover, I have also learned the virtue of persistence and patience when conducting any research with the aid of the librarians. With persistence, I have managed to explore a wider range of research tools, while incorporating government and historic sources of information when analyzing a research topic. Generally, the Ashford University library is a great academic resource center that enhances the students’ learning process.
