Awareness of corporate culture in firms and other organizations emerged in the mid-years of the 20 th century. By 1990, the term was well known, and most companies had initiated new programs to help amend their cultures. The practice consists of beliefs and behaviors that make up the company value systems. Some firms also include their origin myths and visual symbols that make up their logos. Recently, there is an increase in the adoption of employees-based programs as part of advancement. Businesses are continually seeking to promote healthy relationships among their workers to improve productivity and employee retention rate. Through these changes, there is an undeniable connection between the business outcomes and the organizational culture. The paper explores the role of corporate culture in modern companies.

Influences of Corporate Culture 

Each company has its norms and values. In many firms, training is crucial for the effectiveness of the workers. Well trained employees are aware of the need to maintain workplace relationships. Training significantly adds to the output value of business especially when it is linked to the corporate objectives (Gupta & Kumar, 2015). The effectiveness of the training programs can be measured through the company's culture. In this case, if there is a history of improvement in production due to continued training, then more initiatives can be implemented. New hires can be attracted to a firm by the strong corporate culture of training and educating employees from time to time. An example is the Warby Parker company that sells glasses online. The company updates their employees on the new technology programs that are available and how they can be used in increasing sales. Another firm is Southwest Airlines where workers are part of the unified team.

Leadership turnover can negatively affect the culture of a firm. The reason is that each change in leadership increases the likelihood that the primary objectives will not be considered when making new changes. The best succession decisions can be made through enhancement of corporate culture (Hiller, 2013). It can be done through the conservation of a company's culture and values in all processes. An example is how Ford Motors that integrated its structure with the labor relations. In this case, employees are aware of the firm values and how to practice them irrespective of changes in leadership. Another example is how modern firms are practicing cultural continuity by cross-training their employees.

In modern businesses, social media creates an experience. Employees can easily communicate both internally and externally which impacts the way they think and act when at the workplace. Keeping in mind that most communication devices such as smartphones and tablets are easily accessible, companies are now able to utilize mobile and web-based technologies. Media has made coordination at work more effective especially between the employees and the management. Through other external platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, firms can connect with potential employees as well as stakeholders. The most critical decision is the choice of media used based on organizational needs. The main areas of focus should be improving productivity while ensuring that the least costs are involved.

When weighing on the primary benefits, social media is an instrument that enables people to communicate and interact. The main reason why it is the most recommended method of communication among employees is that it promotes participation and openness (Van Dijck, 2013). Everybody is involved in the contribution process because the content is reachable from all locations. The technology is also practical and has practical educational content through which firms can engage their employees. While companies can use their media channels to make content more accessible, it is also possible to provide visual guides such as videos.

Conclusion 

The last two decades in the business world have brought about increased awareness of the importance of promoting corporate cultures. The change applies to both small and large sized companies that are using technological solutions to improve their level of productivity. The successful introduction of social media channels empowers the workers to engage with each other. It is through these digital communication methods that corporate culture is developed.
