I: FROM THE PAST

Four relevant participants are Dr. Harold Kublin, who assists terminally ill people to end their lives, Warren Silver, who was Lucy’s neighbor with whom they shared a long-term relationship, and Dr. Kublin, who provided the chemicals and hooked them to her. There is nothing good in the situation because it involves a person who decided to take their own life. What works are the chemicals provided that help her end her life. The history of the situation is that a year before her death, Lucy been diagnosed with throat cancer. As her cancer spread, she underwent two rounds of chemotherapy. More recently, her doctor advised another round, which would give her at most one more year of life. But she refused. The people involved do not hold any moral standards as the action is illegal. Lack of perseverance is the personal trait that leads to the success of the process. The participants’ horizons are open to learning when nobody stood against the action and advised Lucy to keep her hopes up. They could have done better by not working together to end her life but to help her realize the good things life still offers. What is not okay is that she ends her life. Cancer treatment does not work. Priorities that are making things works is the lack of priority to live a good life.

II: TO THE FUTURE

The best outcome accord to my faith, will be to consider if the decision is from the biblical moral perception. The Faith-bases ethical principles relevant here include the fact that life should be respected and taking one’s life is against the biblical principles. The relevant fact-based tradition is that life is sacred and should remain to be that way. The specific action to be taken by people in Lucy’s situation is to focus more on the positive part of life and create a worthwhile experience instead of taking away their lives.
