Playing is an important activity for growing children as it is how they best practice growing up. Consequently, toys are the all-important tools used by the children to play ( Valdiosera, 2010 ). Professor Kathy Hirsh-Pasek quote tries to bring out the fact that toys other than being the tool used by children should appeal and appease the children. The toys ought not to be sophisticated but easily understandable to the children. Understanding how to utilize and play with the toy will go a long way in aiding in the development of the child. It is in that sense that one may argue that toys can either be bought or be a simple paper sack or the kitchen pan lids. Anything which a child can play with safely constitutes a toy ( Valdiosera, 2010 ). It is in the simple things that children find the greatest of joy.

The overall point of the article is that children most often than not need to have direct contact and experience with toys to make sense of them. I agree with the article as it is from the toys that children mostly learn simple activities such as running, walking, sitting or even talking. They find out how things work and operate because in most instances toys are a simulation of logical and realistic things. Additionally, toys help the children with tasks such as muscle exercise and coordination or balance making it paramount for a toy to be focused on the child more than anything. Another important reason why I agree with the arguments presented in the article because toys help in creating a child’s imagination, fantasy, creativity and thoughts. It is evidently clear from the article that toys help to foster physical, mental, social and emotional development of children as well as gaining a strong learning foundation.
