People of the color are at risk of being discriminated against at workplaces due to biased professional standards inducted by the Whites. The practices favor the Whites and Western employees. After watching the " White Professionalism in the Workplace” video by Kathleen McLean, various forms of white supremacy are prevalent. The video made me reflect on a former workplace where some of the elements said were present. The organization was characterized by sense of urgency, power hoarding, quantity over quality, defensiveness and worship of the written word against people of color. I remember our manager being protected by the top management despite failing to uphold ethical considerations. The matter was reported by a colleague who was fired later by the same manager.
Being an agent of change in an organization means advocating for the rights of people of color enslaved by white supremacy. Personally, it is a pleasure to ensure the well-being of the oppressed at workplaces. Despite not being in that organization, I am in position to influence change. I can liaise with other activists to implement a plan against white professionalism measures demeaning people of color. As a social worker, I have an ethical obligation to confront the issue since, as said by Kathleen McLean it affects all of us. Maybe it is not me but my brother or neighbor. Advocating against unfavorable white professionalism standards requires a robust plan. My plan first creates awareness about the existence of white supremacy and professionalism at workplaces. The campaign should educate individuals on various forms of white supremacy and how it demeans people of color. I would then call out leaders, managers, and individuals to condemn such acts. Lastly, I would involve policy makers and campaign to reform policies governing employee conduct and relationships at workplaces.
