The role of bees regarding the pollination process can hardly be overlooked. They (bees) are the most important pollinators of most crops such as fruits, vegetables among others both for animal and human consumption. More than a third of global food production is directly dependent on bee-related pollination. However, this trend has been affected due to the disappearing of bees. Different factors are attributed to the death of bees globally. According to Spivak (2019), bees are dying from multiple as well as interrelated causes. These include monoculture practice, diseases, and parasites, large scale use of pesticides as well as the planting of flowerless plants. Monoculture is the planting or cultivation of a single crop in a large portion of land, this, in turn, is followed by large scale use of pesticides (fungicides and herbicides among others) to increase farm yields. Dying of bees indicates dysfunctional food systems which in turn affect the nature of bees’ existence. Parasites such as Varroa detractor mite are a threat to bees’ existence.

Despite the decreasing volume of bees globally, the trend can be reversed through attainable solutions or practices. Some of the solutions to this menace are planting bee-friendly flowers. Bees depend on flowers not only for their food but also for their health aspects. Next is the avoidance of pesticide usage in modern farming practices. There is also the adoption of diversification in people’s farms to correct the dysfunctional food system (Spivak, 2019). Finally, farmers should be encouraged to plant more flowers and cover crops to improve soil nourishment and in turn, avoid the use of artificial fertilizers.
The healthy existence of bees would not only mean a functional foods system, but also health colonies and increased quality and quantity production of the farms due to the benefits of the natural pollination process. The video highlights the importance of beekeeping, threats to bees’ existence as well as much needed solution to the problems affecting them solving the threats to the bee colonies would mean an improved human life as a result of successful natural pollination process supported by the bees.
