The boy aged thirteen years did not appear disturbed or struggling with substance issues. Although he had mental issues, it was unlikely that the boy was plotting an escape. Nonetheless, a letter he drafted during his escape gave insights into why the boy may have escaped

Hearing about the escape was a surprise to the team involved. As the social care worker in charge, it implied that there was poor assessment of the situation faced by the young boy. The information would be useful in creating an ideal living atmosphere for the child under foster care.
