Introduction

Porter and Kramer define responsive corporate social responsibility as those good acts that portray good corporate citizenship, together with actions, within the organization, which help mitigate adverse effects on society from those activities the firm engages in. Therefore, R-CSR are measurable and realistic initiatives that provide an organization with a mitigating capability as a way of maintaining the firm value on its chain of activities. According to Kramer, each business unit should have a department that reviews the business’ impact on the society in which it is located, or it functions in. This will help it identify those of its activities that impact the society and consequentially identify the best practices to implement and support.

Organizational Background

Single Source Inc. is the largest single-line national distributor for PPG paint for automotive, commercial, and industrial application, and related supplies. Formed in 1995, Single Source Inc. merged with NCS (national coating and supplies) in 2016 to be able to command the market share, be a competitive player, and provide better employment opportunity for its workers. With over 160 locations around the United States, single source Inc., NCS, and the tin roof foundation engages the communities around the world in trying to impact thousands of lives. It engages in education, healthcare, and food insecurity in these communities by providing advice, donating money for food, education, and healthcare. The organization understands the impact, know or imagined, its products have on the society; therefore, through education and healthcare, it is able to respond effectively to adverse effects that it may cause.

Critical Analysis

Single Source Inc. shows responsive SCR within its functions. This is captured in the manner it invests in its employees and in educating them to be more trained in handling their products. More so, it is continually involved in improving the quality of life for its workforce and their families by engaging them in community work and being part of the change process. This is captured in the manner in which they are practicing their CSR.
