Emotions are intense feelings resulting from some event. Human beings appear to have a set of predictable responses to situations. These are the basic emotions that include anger, fear joy, sadness, and disgust among others. The perceptional view of emotion makes the most sense to me because of a number of reasons. First perception occurs in the sensory systems Sensory systems are causally linked to emotions in that they convert physical magnitudes into mental representations. Similarly, physical situations are what trigger emotional reactions.

Secondly, perceptions are consciously experienced. This aspect is significance in their relation to emotions because of the modality in phenomenal qualities perception has. When we consider human phenomenal qualities, most of them are characterized by modality. For instance, when we recognize a rough surface with eyes, the texture is not represented in a modal code but in self-consciousness as visual. Even with emotions, we experience them as feelings of the facts they represent hence the kind of reaction we give in various situations.

Notably, perception also involves the generation of internal presentations. Sometimes senses present perturbations which causes mental states a fair amount of time before processing the emotions. For instance, if someone is told of bad news emotions are induced by changing states of the body. One might feel sad as a result of crying. Thus the perceptional view of emotions makes more sense because they are modality specific, which is a quality of perception.

From an organismic point of view, emotions are have a disorganizing effect on the organism and the activity it is engaged at that time of the event. Unlike the perceptional view, the organism point of emotional is limited to observable behavior. Yet emotions can be internal as well. Also, it is not across all emotions that disorganization is a feature.
