Wireless LANs are applicable in various industries where the physical installation of physical media is not possible. This is vital because the users can process the information immediately, directly, thus minimizing time and making it possible to process information and share with core-workers. The following are some of the applications of WLANs that one could not have imagined in the past.

Healthcare

Healthcare providers use WLANs to provide the needed care on the spot. The use of wireless LAN enables doctors and nurses to access the required information in the database that helps in decision-making such as pharmaceuticals, and surgical processes. The application of wireless LAN allows easy access to electronic patient records, where they can update, view patient’s information from everywhere in the health facility. This increases efficiency in healthcare provision. The improvement is realized by using a wireless computer connected to the database that stores records of the patients (Lee, Park et al., 2011). The challenge that I may face in providing support for the implementation is the costs involved and maintaining the database

Hospitality

The hospitality industry uses Wireless LAN to keep track of the client's in the hotels and enable accessible communication with customers in the rooms, such as providing laundry services, room service requests, and checking to book in the hotel rooms. The restaurants utilize the WLANs to check for numbers of clients booking the rooms, check the available orders, table status. The use of WLANs enables the restaurant staff to provide quick and accurate data needed for day-to-day decisions. Wireless computers are vital in the hospitality industry because it enhances service provision, and have a significant return-on-investments ( Kim & Wattanapongsakorn, 2015) . The challenges that may be faced in the implementation of wireless LANs in the hospitality industry are the cost needed to implement the project and the connection problems due to network challenges.

Retail

The retail organizations utilize Wireless LANs to place orders, pricing, selling, and keeping inventory of the stock. WLANs allow store managers to coordinate with the sales department. The salespersons are equipped with devices that can read the bar-codes, which are linked with the store’s database. The devices allow the salespersons to make pricing, labeling pins and doing stocktaking. The bar-code scanners and printers are used to produce readable labels which are connected with the database (Santamaria, 2006). The challenges that can be encountered when providing support for the implementation of the retail include updating the database, and costs involved in the installation of the system

Warehousing

The WLAN is used in the warehouse to manage inventory print receipts and control the shipment of goods. The use of wireless LAN enables the warehouse staff to reduce the use of paperwork and reduce the time needed in inventory control. The team can be able to update the stock, reduce the time required to move products in and out of the warehouse within the shortest time possible. The warehouse employees are given devices that read the bar-codes on goods and are connected to the inventory system. The employees can scan the bar-code of the products received in the warehouse and key in the information that is reflected in the warehouse inventory system. The system will update the volume of goods received in the store. The inventory system will keep a record of all inventories, thus making it easy for the store managers to produce accurate inventory records (Ebach et al., 2011). The challenges that can be faced when providing support for the implementation include; system updates, costs needed to maintain the system, and the implementation of the wireless network
