Work-life conflict occurs due to the interference of one’s occupation with the personal life. A person experiencing this problem usually falls in dilemma in determining the attention to give work and other personal endeavours like family obligations. Work-life conflict occurs in different forms depending on one’s responsibilities. First, off-work life may hinder a person from delivering full potential to his/her daily occupation and career. In this conflict, a person spends more time engaging in off-work activities and leaving little time for the career (Sirgy et al, 2018) . A person experiencing this interference may regularly disagree with the seniors or fail to achieve set goals. The individual may also bring little input to the organization and thus reducing its performance. A person’s daily occupation may also significantly interfere with personal life. A person in this conflict spends a lot of time in the office thus leaving little time for off-the-job activities like exercising, entertainment, and family bonding.
There are various steps an individual can take in avoiding work-life conflict. First, a person needs to create schedule flexibility which allows one to change the timetable to meet urgent personal needs. For instance, the worker and the organization can formulate particular guidelines that address emergencies like abrupt absenteeism. Secondly, a person can arrange activities starting with the ones that require urgent attention. This method allows the worker to reduce pressure and have time to attend to urgent personal issues. With such an arrangement, the company can continue with its normal operations regardless of the absence of a particular employee. Lastly, the organization’s management and other workers can offer adequate support to an employee experiencing work-life conflict. For instance, seniors can look for a stand-in worker among the firm’s workforce who assumes the absentee’s duties. A person undergoing off-the-job issues can solve them while his/her work continues.
