Diversity in the workplace means accepting and respecting every member of a workgroup despite their gender, skin color, race, age or sexual orientation. In the movie, "The L.A Complex (The Complete Kal & Tariq Story)" Tariq undergoes discrimination due to his age and sexual orientation (Mike, 2014). He is not only the youngest person working in the recording studio, but he is also the only gay person, and as such he is openly discriminated against by the other music engineers. His case is a perfect example of a poor workplace diversity that refuses to include members of the LGBT Community. The reason why I chose the particular movie is that I believe members of the LGBT Community deserve respect and equal rights in the workplace. Family backgrounds, personal character, and certain religious beliefs greatly hinder workplace diversity since such individuals are raised according to certain beliefs and ideologies that only advocate for their characters in which a person who does not share in the same values is regarded an outcast and a lesser person.
Workplace diversity is critical for the development, unity, and corporation of any organization that seeks to promote innovation. This is the main reason business leaders advocate for diversity because it enhances corporation and teamwork. To ensure this happens, various business leaders have varied methods of promoting workplace diversity, the conventional means being the hiring of workers across a vast divide (Boekhorst, 2015) . In other words, more leaders are moving towards ensuring that all groups of people, be they blacks and whites, straight and gay people, young and old, male and female are represented in equal measures in the organization. According to this hiring criteria, it is not only enough to be experienced, but leaders also have to consider the given categories to ensure they are equally represented similarly, more emphasis is being placed on the human resource department to ensure that all employees are enlightened on the rules and ideologies of workplace diversity.
