Writing is an art that develops naturally from a younger age which occurs in stages. Learning to write alphabets starts from understanding the eye coordination through the two and three dimensions of art. It involves the ability of a child’s level of maturity, which is observed by the strength of the muscles hand, arm, and wrist. The child is seen by how they can use items presented to them, such as painting tools, scissors, and strings beads. Children begin by scribbling, which gives them the pleasure for making marks that reflects what they are thinking. The book, “Becoming a writer ” (n.d.) shows that hhe teacher, at this point, should accept the child’s art or picture and encourage them so that they can feel they are the right track. A child’s progress is measured from stage to stage as they advance to the next step by providing the needed resources to them. As a tutor, the only duty entitled is to ensure that the child’s progress is measured spontaneously and correcting where necessary. Through learning, the art of drawing and book reading help in pursuing in development of the writing skills.

Informal writing in kindergarten and preschools levels is the foundation for all students writing and communication skills. The article “ Partnership for Reading” (2001) argues that informal writing includes reading exciting books to children, drawings, and visual presentations. At this stage, the teachers should engage the children in any activity that the child may want to get involved in, this it leads to more discovery where the child may realize other interest like from scribbling to drawing. In the child’s development stages, they later engage in illustrations where the first drawing will be that of their family members. The teacher should provide all the needed materials for pictures, which include crayons, chalks, and painting brushes. Naming the drawings follows where the teacher’s assistance is crucial at this stage. Visual representation allows the child to draw other objects, and even they can identify different objects presented to them. It helps in the development of emotional maturity and sensitivity in the environment around them. However, access to media such as television can free them from passion limitation ( “Becoming a writer, ” n.d.). Informal writing sets the necessary foundation for all the children as they grow to learn the writing skills were a teacher’s engagement in this process is crucial at each given stage.

In learning how to read and write, it develops simultaneously, which attributes to understanding the role of writing in preschool. It’s the role of the teacher to ensure that the learns environment filled with learning material such as books, signs, labels ideal for the children to keep focus (“Becoming a writer ,” n.d.). Setting up a writing center is essential to the children because this kind of environment encourages them to practice on their own. Through this, they can explore more on their writing skills in the center as along all the tools necessary for learning are available. Children are not as much interested in learning the alphabet as compared to picture storytelling. For writing skills, the alphabetical experience is hectic for any teacher because it does not arouse as much interest as the pictures will do. In this case, the teacher is required to choose exciting books with interesting words to grab the attention of the children. By doing this, one is bringing the names, shapes of the letters to the child’s quest.

According to Partnership for reading (2001), the experiences that children learn as they grow up, specifically from daycare, preschool, and kindergarten, contribute to their writing skills. For active learning, the teachers, as well as the parents, should understand that learning how to read and write is an automatic process of emergent literacy and it should not rush but warmly supported in both sides. As much as children are given extra work at school the teacher should ensure that alone time with the child is essential to ensure that they can share their writing skills journey which will help in arranging their thoughts in details. Teaching in strategies such as sounding out words can help in the learning process. Lastly, Becoming a writer (n.d.) depict that learning involves a lot of work, and it can be tiring at times in this case, the children need to feel that their work valued by celebrating them, this will enhance their confidence and improvement noted.
