14 Up in America is an American documentary following up on the children featured in the Age 7 in America and follows up until they reach age 14. The movies features the young subjects as they deal with adolescence, challenges at school, family, financial experiences, and violence. From the film, it is evident that the early experiences of a person affect the development at later stages of life. LeRoy and Kennisha are living in Chicago but are still afraid of violence and gangs because of the earlier violent environment they were living in. Despite the family of Kennisha having moved from the housing project and leading a better quality life than during the first 7 years of her life, she still fears violence because of the experiences she had earlier on. Lucy, Kate and Alexis are enjoying a privileged life in New York, but it is associated with its own kind of stress and tension. They face a lot of challenges in their different lifestyles but they try to thrive through it all. As they grow, the young subjects featured in the film have aspirations and dreams most of which are intertwined with the specific features of the environment they are growing in. The subjects experience immense physical growth in terms of height and weight. Through social interactions, the young subjects demonstrate understanding and knowledge on various aspects of life.
Differences Between Ages 7 and 14
At age 14, the subjects attain independence and freedom and have an opportunity to make some decisions for themselves unlike at age 7 when they depended on their guardians for everything. From the film, as the subjects approach the age of 14 they undergo dramatic growth and development in all aspects of development unlike before the age of 7 when the growth and development was not rapid. Adolescence is the stage of development and growth when children experience rapid physical growth. Between the ages 7-14, the subjects had rapid physical growth as compared to ages 1-7. The subjects show better understanding of various aspects of life at the age of 14 as their opinions and views are well explained and relatable unlike at the age of 7 when the opinions and views of the subjects were vague. At adolescence, the learning and the skills of the young people are strengthened. At the age of the 14, the social world of the subjects expands, and they have the opportunity to socialize with various people, hence learn new things unlike at the age of 7 when their social lives were limited. The subjects start to lay their foundation of identity at the ages of 7-14.

I would like to know more about the lives that the subjects lead after the age of 14. The life issue portrayed in the movie is the violence that threatens the well-being of people in different communities in the United States.
