Comparing hazards

When buildings areunder construction they are prone to many hazards, this may include fires, arson, vandalism and even theft. The fires are mostly caused by arson, sparks or open flames originating from cutting and welding machines or even torches used to roof installations. Careless disposal of smoking materials, heaters, construction vehicles and power tools can be sources of site fires. The resultant fires can be rapid when it on an open area, there is risk of being blown by wind and become uncontrollable (Dzeng&Fang, 2015) . In a construction site most machines are fuel powered andmaterials used are combustible. This therefore means a fire risk in a construction site can be enormous and destructive.

Similar to construction, when undertaking renovation works, people may be prone to risks such as dust and debris falling off, noise from drilling, hissing of sparks from welders’ machines and even fire. In renovation, there are additional pollution risks; this mostly comes from asbestos, lead, paints, sealers, glues and roofing materials. The machines used in renovation also use fuel and are known to emit carbon monoxide and other fumes (Gardoni, 2016) . The workers also have to endure working on places littered with molds and birds droppings; this type of dirt poses health risks to them.

When workers are demolishing buildings they may be more prone to explosion, fires, electrocution, inhalation of toxic materials, falling from heights or debris falling on them. Noise levels at demolition sites might get to disturbing levels (Dzeng&Fang, 2015) . Therefore most of the hazards that occur during construction, renovation and demolition are closely related. Fires are a common phenomenon in all the phases stated. They result from activities or machines used in these works. The workers are also exposed to toxic emissions and debris falling on them (Gardoni, 2016) . Noise pollution is also common in all these sites. The best way to avoid these hazards is to environmental consultants to assess the risks. They will guide on the best ways to avoid hazards. The site managers and supervisors can also work with other junior employees in removing all hazardous materials from site.
