The four components of rhetoric analysis in writing are audience, genre, purpose, and setting. Audience refers to the recipients of a particular communication, a spectator, a reader, or a listener. A genre means an organized pattern for the provision of specific kinds of information chosen according to the repetitive circumstances and intended for the identified audience. The setting refers to the practical part of a rhetorical situation developed by the writer to address the audience. The purpose relates to the goal for the communication to the audience and aims to get the targeted audience to change their perception based on what the speaker tells them. Rhetoric is essential because it helps one relate their situation with what the speaker intends the reader to understand, readers and writers understand texts through understanding a rhetorical situation hence readers get an idea on what to do in a particular situation. 

Your teens for Parents Magazine is a reading resource that has for 12 years assisted parents in understanding their teenagers, especially those in high school since parents get advice from experts. Children in America seem obedient and easily follow parent’s rules and advice, until they are around twelve years and reach the adolescent stage, teenagers start seeking separation from their parents. The target audience are parents having children from middle school and high school. Parents with teenagers beyond high school also benefit from reading the magazine since there are tips on how to handle teenagers at different stages. The genre of the magazine is a bi-monthly magazine that gives parents a chance to have a light shade on how to grow their children. Parents have insecurities on parenting; hence bi-monthly publication assists fuel parent’s skills to handle challenges faced on everyday life with teenagers. The setting is the contemporary parenting atmosphere, highlighting the chaos parents encounter when their children reach the adolescent stage. Some parents feel unqualified to advice their children and require the assurance to know whether what they teach their teens is right. The purpose is to mentor parents in guiding their children in different situations; teen parents encounter challenges in understanding the diverse situations their teens face hence need parental guidance on mentoring teens.

The CNN article “ The real winner in the travel ban decision” by Joshua Geltzer describes the implications of the Supreme Court’s ruling on President Trump’s travel ban. As the article describes, the target audience is the American citizens. “That makes the real winners in the travel ban litigation the American people. That's because, when the rule of law triumphs, we and the Constitution we cherish are all more secure” (Geltzer, 2018). The genre of the article is internet news article, with precise and elaborate descriptions of the subject to make it as simplified as possible in a formal language. The setting of the article is the contemporary United States. It describes how the current administration has attempted to downplay the constitution. The purpose of is to inform the American citizens and all other readers globally. 

The Letter Martin Luther King, Jr. "Letter from Birmingham Jail" was written by MLK Jr. while in prison in 1963. The target audience of the letter are the leaders and people of the Southern movements against racial discrimination. “ Now is the time to lift our national policy from the quicksand of racial injustice to the solid rock of human dignity.” (King, 1963). MLK calls them to take action and continue in the fight against racism. The genre of the article is persuasive letter. MLK tries to appeal to the clergymen that he is still part of the revolutionary cause. The setting of the article is the civil war era United States, during which racial discrimination was rampant. The purpose is to unit e all American s in their fight for civil rights. 

President Trump’s “State of the Union address” speech was delivered to congress. The target audience of the speech was the Unites States legislators, elected officials, and the rest of the American citizens. . The president provided a detailed breakdown of the progress the nation had made in the past year. “Since the election, we have created 2.4 million new jobs, including 200,000 new jobs in manufacturing alone. Tremendous” (Trump, 2020). The genre of the article is the state of the union address, which is delivered to congress annually by the POTUS. The setting is the contemporary United States, as the speech addresses different aspects of the current lives of Americans. The purpose of the speech is to inform the American people of the social and economic progress they have made over the past year(s). 

In conclusion, the use of rhetoric is essential in writing as it provides a link between the target audience, the genre of the article, purpose of the writing, and the setting used in the article. The author has to be aware of these elements to create an article that will not be repugnant to the target audience. The target audience often determines the genre and purpose of an article. It is therefore imperative to conduct a thorough research on these elements before one begins writing the script or essay. The primary purpose of any article is to convey a particular message to a specific target group in a certain setting.
