Growing up, I have always wanted to be involved in the providing of any form of healthcare as a nurse. This was highly motivated by the family I grew up where I had a close-up experience with nurses. My frequent visits in hospitals brought into my attention the growing demands for healthcare needs with many patients seeking medical attention while the number of nurses keeps on shrinking. I, therefore, wanted to be a part of the family of a nurse who works beyond their shifts to increase the well-being of their patients. I worked extremely hard and managed to get my Associate degree in nursing, and this was followed by a Master’s Degree nine years later with a GPA of 3.91 regardless of the numerous obstacles along the way. My overall goal is to acquire a Doctor in Nursing Practice as a Clinical Nurse Leader.
My experience in the nursing field has exposed me to a number of different nursing experiences with some being very challenging than others. I have been able to explore nursing at the community level, in the emergency levels and also dealing with kids. All these experiences have provided me with the perfect avenues of being prepared for all nursing roles that a nurse is supposed to handle. I opted to be a nurse leader because it allows me to be in charge of a nurse team and combine my competence, experience and evidence-based practice as a means towards improving the performance of the team I am in charge of. This will be a good way through which I can be able to share my knowledge, competence, and experience towards improving the well-being of the patients. Having a Doctor of Nursing Practice will give me an extended avenue of practice with more autonomy and leadership roles compared to having a Master’s Degree in Nursing Practice. It is through the DNP that I will be able to practice as a nursing leader with more freedom to practice that when having a master’s degree.

Aside from being a part of a foundation for helping low-income communities in the future, I intend to use my specialization in leadership as a means of coordinating a series of healthcare to many different areas. I would want to be a nursing leader in the leading healthcare facilities. My leadership would be important when it comes to managing and leading the whole team by sharing my experience and competence to the nursing teams. My Nursing Leadership skills acquired will also be very valuable in terms of sharing my knowledge to new nurses in the profession, including those that are still in their first clinical settings.
My selection for Johns Hopkins University as an avenue to meet my overall goal has been based on the fact that the school provides the best nursing education for all levels. Additionally, the facility has all the needed resources and facilities to make sure that I learn in a very accommodating and conducive environment that will make me become the best for the nursing profession, which requires quality and competence. The facility has a hospital with it, which provides the learners with first-hand learning experiences. Therefore, Johns Hopkins University has all that it takes to make me the best Nurse Leader I have always wanted to be.
