Of the six behaviors of an effective team leader mentioned in the video, the most difficult one to learn for a new manager is setting goals for the team. Agreeably, excellent employees could make poor managers if their team leadership skills are not honed, such as by attending seminars and participating in the training. The challenge in setting a team's goals can be discussed from different perspectives. Firstly, the poor timing of the goals presents the major setback that the new leaders face (Patchet, 2018). A team may have several activities being handled at a go, and when the goals have not been set according to the proper timing of the activities, the team leader and the members may face the pressures of hurrying some tasks up to be within the deadline. The setting of goals becomes a challenge in the matching of the right goals with the activities that a team needs to deliver (Patchet, 2018). The leader, therefore, has to think critically regarding the proper goals for the activities to be carried out at a time. Without the proper skills, matching proper goals with their respective activities may become a nightmare for the newly appointed team leaders.
Part Two
An example of a good-faith mistake that took place in a team that I was once part of is the disqualification of a member who was alleged to leak the critical information of the team to the unauthorized parties. The leader disqualified the member from avoiding the leakage of more information to the outsiders. The team leader was livid at the member and hastily disqualified her from the team. After some time, it was proven that the other member who reported the issue to the leader was the one sharing the team's secrets with the unauthorized third parties. The situation became a teachable moment for the team leader and the members soon after. The primary reason for the situation turning into a teachable moment was the presence of the mistake of making hasty decisions without considering the consequences of the choice. That was on the side of the team leader.
