The Metropolitan Museum of Art (TMMOA), is the largest museum in the USA. Also known as “the met”, its address is 1000 5th Ave, New York. According to Noussair & Renneboog (2019), figurative art refers to paintings that depict true events that happened in the past. The woman in the painting is Virgin Mary whereas the child she is holding is Jesus. The painting is, therefore, a religious painting; hence, the painter is trying to pass a religious message across. Despite being a religious painting, it depicts American culture which tries to paint a picture of humbleness. This is because the painter used his children and those of his gardener as angels in the painting, hence depicting a culture that Christian is associated with being humble. Two historical elements are used in the painting. One is the circular format of the painting which is a tondo, as well as the naturalistic setting. Both these historic elements reflect the renaissance period.
