Art can be described in different ways depending on appearance, medium used, colors, and type. In creating a piece of art, the artist as to concentrate on factors such as appearance and geometrical elements. The lines, brush strokes, texture, tone and outlines define the appearance and interpretation of a piece of art. A landscape, for example, Mount Sainte-Victoire by Paul Cezanne, can be interpreted with the use of color, trees, mountains, and houses. Geometrical simplicity can be indicated with the short brushstrokes with thickly painted colors seen in the tree trunks and field. The shaping of different factors such as branches, echoing the mountain behind, creates the image of a perfect landscape.

Mont Sainte-Victoire was created in 1887 in London. It is categorized in the  Manet and the Post-Impressionists exhibition . The piece of art was used to show the ways of passing the complexity of appearance of things through geometrical simplicity, depending on design demands .  Cézanne was focusing on the landscape around his home town and turned it into a study focusing on form and color. Cézanne simplified the scenery art piece, which could be interpreted as the reappearance to a balanced and harmonious form, instead of the complex enhancement. The piece illustrated Modernism, as shown by the organized parallel brushstrokes fragmenting at the composition surface and the bold colors.

My art production and the inspiration piece have the same thematic connection of simplifying appearance by using colors and brushstrokes. The two pieces illustrate Modernism. The pieces also use a three-dimensional geometric shape, showing all the aspects of the landscapes. The similarity is seen in the type of colors used in the inspiration piece and my art production. The art works are of a different medium. Mont Sainte-Victoire was painted in a canvas as the subject matter while I will be using a paper as the medium. The formal elements comparison is seen in the lack of an outline, composition, but the pattern, lines, and shape are similar.
