Describe the troubled relationships between the four lovers (Demetrius, Helena, Lysander, Hermia) and show how they are similar to those of Theseus and Hippolyta and Oberon and Titania

Relationships are the key events that are happening in the Midsummer Night’s Dream. The paper is going to discuss four central relationships in the play. The main characters in the game are, Lysander and Hermia, Theseus and Hippolyta, Oberon and Titania, and Demetrius and Helena. The couples have been dealing with heartaches, pining, bickering and other factors which are associated with love. For instance, Oberon and Titania are the royal people in the play since Oberon is king and Titania is the queen. The couple was bickering throughout the play over a changeling boy. Oberon wanted to enlist the boy on a private page while her wife wanted to keep the boy. It is evident the couple have an open relationship because of their fighting. For instance, Oberon asked Titania to spend time with him but instead reminded him of his private affairs and said, “But I know/when thou hast stolen away from fairyland, /, and the shape of Corin sat all day. It is an indication that the traditional standards of the relationship are not usual. It can also conclude that the relationship of the characters is caused by fierce stubbiness both from their pars. After Titania refused to give wishes to her husband, Oberon decided to drug her with a portion of love which caused to fall in love.

According to the initial situation of the story, Hermia and Lysander love each other and Demetrius loves Hermia. On the same note, Helena loves Demetrius, but no one likes her. The play has a lot of conflicts especially Titania and Oberon were quarreling. Hermia and Lysander ran off the scene and got lost on the woods. Helena and Demetrius and Helena followed them. The couple usually fights over a small thing that brings severe consequences to the whole groups of couples. The young lovers are always worried about love and the only way they deal with the issues only matters to themselves. The problem affected the four couples when especially when Oberon and Titania announced that their natural world had been mixed up. The other couples were surprised, and they went wandering to the same physical world of love. The result of the actions can be predicted to be zany. Besides, puck decided to put a love potion to Lysander. The movement caused him to fall in love with Helen this forsaking Hermia. Oberon decides to enchant Demetrius, and in the process, he falls in love with Helena. The enchantment of Lysander bought a lot of complications to an already stressful situation. True love betrayed itself when Lysander decides to leave Hermia. The false love that was created through the enchantment of Demetrius appears to be true. The pendulum shifted from loving Hermia to Helena. Puck made the situation worse when he decided to interfere with the mechanical rehearsal by changing the main character of the play into a beast. He also went further to send others away and left them to scream on the woods.

The situation of the play reached a climax due to the fighting of Demetrius and Lysander, Helena and Hermia. It can be termed as an ugly resolution of the whole juicy love situation. Demetrius and Lysander were supposed to fight over Hermia, but instead, they were fighting over Helena. The case inspired Hermia, and she decided to compete with Helena. During their fight on the woods, ugly things came up from the past, and the characters started to throw words on each other. For instance, Helena said how she always thought that Hermia was to be a video vixen while they were young. It is complicated to hear some things come out from certain girls when they are not in any spell.

On the other hand, the relationship between Theseus and Hippolyta was forcefully created. Theseus obtained the queen after defeating Amazon which was a society ruled by women. It is learned from the words of Oberon when he says,”Hippolyta, I wooed thee with my sword/ and won thy love doing thee injuries.” According to the statement, Theseus thinks that he has wooed Hippolyta honestly by obtaining her through brute force. The relationship between these couples serves as an excellent example for expectations and gender roles in society. Theseus decides to overturn a society dominated by women ad used force to take their queen. It demonstrates that men are the only individuals in the community to be given a dominant role and women are seen to be powerless. Women are also given less powerful positions because they are used as tools and spoils of war on many occasions. The couples have complacency and irrationalism. It touches our modification and delight which is the core principle in their perfect harmony and reunion. From this discord, the comfort of Helena in the east becomes Concord. It developed retrospect harmony in the play which is inevitable. The characters in the play display disharmony and concord especially from the darker aspect of the play.
