One conduct violation in university is a falsification of documents used by the university concerning a student. This includes but not limited to the papers a student used during the university admission process. An example of this violation is when some people falsify documents in progression to be admitted by the university. There have been cases where people use papers from a relative or an individual, they share a name with to get accepted into the university. Some people can alter their examination history and previous academic history from their previous educational institution.

Another code of conduct verification is using the university networks, and IT resources to download, disseminate copyrighted materials without the permission of the copyright holder. Some people can download copyrighted materials that are for students and distribute them online or to other people without the copyrighter’s permission. An example of this violation is people who distribute academic research articles to other people from the university resources.

Integrity Violations

A student can violate University integrity standards when they use materials that are not authorized by faculty members to complete their assignments. This includes having the task completed by another individual or receiving or providing examination answers or using answer keys and solution materials. A student can break this code by soliciting help from faculty members or other people for an academic exercise. This also applies to individuals who through unethical means can get answers for an upcoming exam or assignment.

Students must work on their assignments individually and assigned coursework unless a faculty member permits collaboration between students. If student collaborates on a project or an assignment, they must inform their instructor about it and nature they worked. An example of this violation is when people collaborate for individual assignments without the express permission of the instructors. This includes academic projects and research that a student is supposed to complete individually (Grand Canyon University, 2019).

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is appropriation of someone else intellectual work and publication by copying ideas, language, thoughts and expression and passing them as your work.

Reasons why students Plagiarize

Some people lack the full comprehension of what plagiarism is. Some students got used to a collaborative model of knowledge production and cannot comprehend the deal with using someone else’s work. They require an ethics education as well as comprehensive education on individual knowledge production.

Laziness and dishonesty cheating are one of the reasons why students plagiarize. Dishonest students want the most comfortable way out of an assignment or a research program, so they falsify another individual’s work as their own. They lack the work ethic and ethical standing to put in the effort required.

Some students lack research skills. They do not understand how to use academic sources during their research and end up appropriating other people work. Students can go through literature review from other people’s work, and they end up designing similar models in their research and in that process, they end up plagiarizing (Munir, Shahzadi, & Ahmad, 2011) .

How to Avoid Academic Dishonesty

Students should develop time planning and management skills by reading the whole syllabus and establishing a plan to finish all the work that is required of them. If in doubt, students are supposed to seek clarification from instructors.

Students should always complete assignments individually unless the instructor has expressly allowed collaboration or the use of other academic materials. On a group assignment, students should clarify what is expected of them.

Students should learn not to share their assignments. They should help each other with classwork, but they should never allow others to copy their work. In addition, the students themselves should learn how to use resources and cite appropriately.
