Adderall is a brand name for a prescription stimulant drug that is used as a medication for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder as well as narcolepsy sleeping disorder in patients. Usually, ADHD impairs the functioning of the brain affecting neurotransmitter systems and causing symptoms such as poor attention and concentration ( Stahl, 2011).  Adderall is a Central Nervous System stimulant which can help such individuals stay more focused on an activity by increasing neurotransmitter activity in the brain. The drug creates a stimulant effect in the brain of a person that improves its functioning. Specifically, it targets the central nervous system due to its role in dopamine transmission as it seeks to raise dopamine levels and stimulating the structural functioning of the brain. Increasing dopamine levels helps in creating a euphoric feeling. It has a stimulant effect used to improve the physical and mental functioning of a person.

Adderall works by increasing dopamine levels in the mind of a person to stimulate brain functioning. Specifically, the drug has a stimulant effect on the central nervous system that plays a role in dopamine neurotransmission, increasing the dopamine levels in the brain to activate a euphoric feeling. Once injected into the body, the drug changes the amount of the chemical substances in the brain that causes ADHD and improves the development of brain and nerves ( Stahl, 2011). . It stops the reuptake of chemicals in mind such as dopamine, resulting in a better ability to focus and control brain actions. The long-term use of the drug helps a person to live a healthy life by reducing any abnormality in the brain structure while improving its functionality. When Adderall is injected into the body, it focuses on stopping the reuptake of dopamine thus increasing its concentration in the brain. The higher concentration improves the concentration, focus and alertness of a person that can lead to a better quality of life.

Adderall reduces the core symptoms such as hyperactivity or lack of attention while enhancing the quality of life of a patient, improving their productivity as well as academic performance for school going, children. It can also improve self-esteem, anti-social behavior, and other social functions among ADHD patients, allowing such patients to have better relationships with their peers and family when they use the drug ( Stahl, 2011).  . However, this condition also has several side effects when discontinued including exacerbating twitches in some individuals. They may range from insomnia, constipation, diarrhea and nausea, headache, dizziness as well as decreased appetite. On the extreme, the drug may cause side effects such as trouble breathing, numbness, irregular heartbeat, hallucinations, aggressive behavior and changes in vision. As such, it is best considered in the morning due to its ability to cause insomnia when taken before bed.

There is also a possibility of misuse or overdose of Adderall among individuals. Recently, more people have been using Adderall for pleasure rather than for medical reasons due to its ability to cause a stimulating effect. For example, some teens tend to crush the tablets to dissolve them in water and inject in their bloodstream for pleasure, to increases their focus or lose weight ( Varga, 2012) . However, misuse and overdose of Adderall can be dangerous resulting to effects such as hallucinations, extreme fatigue, aggression as well as loss of consciousness. There is also a risk of developing a tolerance for the drug resulting in physical and psychological dependence for individuals who use it for recreational purposes. However, one thing that I found concerning about this drug was that it is not recommended for a patient with severe anxiety, hypertension or history of drug abuse. Other patients with conditions such as bipolar disorder, depression, and psychosis are supposed to monitor their symptoms to avoid the extreme side effects of the drug, which shows it is a drug with limited possibilities.
