When an adolescent finds self under negative influence, it might be too late. A forcible or volunteer decision to join the gang may appear. There are many factors that cause such decision, but the most important part is how it can be prevented. Researches shows that individuals with conduct, oppositional defiant, and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorders more often join a gang. All of these disorders are psychological and behavioral. So, in order to prevent criminal activity, people with these diagnoses must be assigned to the high-risk group. In this paper, I want to discuss what society and schools can do in order to decrease the amount of teens, who want to join a gang.

Society

How can society decrease the appeal for joining a gang? Providing appropriate penalties and discouraging events and activities for adolescents who decided to join the gang might be a clue. Also, there is a necessity to decrease popularization of violence and crime in media sources. Society must offer useful for both sides (society and adolescents) public works and activities. On the other hand, in order to decrease attractiveness of the “criminal” life, government could create juvenile bureaus in police departments. Its main functions and goals are to protect juveniles and prevent delinquency from the last ones; investigate and dispose cases of juveniles who were involved into gang activities. Also, a great idea would be to provide separate correctional facilities due to the fact that adolescent who got into adult jail have meager probability to been rehabilitated within society. When such a young person faces environment like that it may influence in the most terrifying way: youth may conclude that most of the problems may be solved through violation, cheating, and fear.

School

In this case, school plays similar role. Because this is the place where adolescent begins his or her social life, it’s eventual to provide them with a sensible understanding of the society and how it works. School must be well-organized because many researches show that disorganized schools raise more chances for delinquency. Also, the main discouraging factor is a warning about consequences of the delinquency. The role of school is to help youth to find an individual role in society and provide the programs that assist to build most necessary life skills, create hope to the future, and offer guides and social values. This all in combination with wholesome parents-child, teacher-child, and child-child relations may decrease attraction of gangs for adolescents.

Conclusion

Adolescent delinquency is a serious issue in the whole society, but only society and such places like schools could help themselves to reduce delinquency amount. Society could provide special programs that aware about consequences of the law violation, also government must restrict of prohibit violence and criminal popularization by media sources. School also plays important role to deal with delinquency problem, because this is the first place, when youth faced the society and how it works. So, main goal of school is to provide well-organization and help to youth find their place in the society. All this may discourage adolescents to join to gangs, and reduce the overall percentage of crime.
