What is the Affordable Care Act? Why is it such a hot topic in politics?

The Affordable care act (ACA) was enacted to establish a comprehensive health care coverage. The purpose of the act is to ensure that almost all U.S. citizens who often do not have personal insurance coverage can afford insurance. The ACA is a hot topic because it is the first legislation that provides insurance coverage for all Americans and, at the same time, protects consumers from insurance companies that restrict care or impose high costs on individuals with underlying medical conditions.

Is the Affordable Care Act really working? Is it really affordable?

The ACA is working because it plays the role of reduction of healthcare costs that has been problematic for most Americans. Since enactment, it is estimated that over 11 million individuals gained access to insurance, presenting an opportunity to reduce poverty resulting from costly healthcare (Salmond & Echevarria, 2017). Through ACA, the priorities are set straight, allowing nurses to actively help patients within communities and hospitals to reduce medical diagnosis charges.

Finally, costs reduction and improved healthcare efficiency that enhance healthcare costs reduce long-term healthcare costs.

How do you feel about the Affordable Care Act? Do you think it should be reformed?

ACA has proven to be vital in addressing the importance of access to healthcare that caters to low-income individuals. The act sustains cost by closing the gap between related expenditures and insurance coverage. Such is made possible through the modification of competition between health care agencies and healthcare institutions. However, delivery system reform is needed to ensure that traditional Medicare payments. Additionally, congressional action should assist middle and low-income families with coverages to afford medical premiums.
