The purpose of the act is to ensure that almost all U.S. citizens who often do not have personal insurance coverage can afford insurance. The ACA is a hot topic because it is the first legislation that provides insurance coverage for all Americans and, at the same time, protects consumers from insurance companies that restrict care or impose high costs on individuals with underlying medical conditions.

Additionally, congressional action should assist middle and low-income families with coverages to afford medical premiums.
