The video focuses on airport safety management programs and the author, Jeff Price, begins with demonstrating the crucial part that airport operations play in the overall safety assurance level of the airport. He demonstrates how the work of airport operations personnel is interconnected with many other staff meaning that they need to work together to ensure that every part of the airport is running smoothly. Airport operations ensure safety for passengers and personnel, ensure that facilities in and around the airport are well maintained and working as expected, respond to incidents and try to solve these in the best way possible and work on maintaining the required organization even when there is construction going on. From the video, one can identify that the role played by airport operation personnel and the overall safety requirements are clearly spelt out in the Title 14 CFR Part 139 Airport Certification.

The certification is issued to airports to ensure that they abide the required safety standards. The certification allows these airports to operate as commercial airports. To ensure that all commercial airports comply with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements, the responsibility is assigned to airport operations personnel to develop the airport certification manual that shows how the specific airport adheres to the safety requirements. The FAA goes through these manuals and approve them if they are satisfied that the airport is well set on safety requirements. I also learned about the various components of an airport’s self-inspection program. The regular component occurs twice a day before operations begin in the morning and at night for airports with night operations. The periodic component includes more in-depth inspections of areas such as the airport fuel farm and will involve third parties such as the fire department. The special component which occurs when there is an unusual occurrent and the continuous components which occurs throughout an airfield inspector’s shift. Overall, the video is extremely informative on airport safety management programs, the primary players and functions played to ensure the safety standards required by the FAA are maintained.
