This problems report is prepared for the CEO, Chief Executive Officer, of Makin Melodies, a small-sized firm that deals in the manufacture and distribution of musical instruments and supplies in Tampa Bay, Florida. The objective of the problems report is to help the CEO to familiarize with the weaknesses of recently acquired workers primarily because he does not have enough understanding of their conduct at the workplace. While the report is prepared for business use, its academic value relates to the fact that it highlights the importance of effective planning in the preparation of professional documents. In brainstorming the problems associated with each of the seven new employees of the firm, the report applies the ally’s developed from Dave’s Chapter one of the class readings for this course.

Social Problems

Table 1 highlights the brainstormed problems of each of the seven new workers in the Makin Melodies workplace, and it importantly highlights that social problems are the most prevalent among the new comers in the workplace.

As table 1 suggests, the first social effect of the social problems of the identified employees is the fact that it affects their productivity as well as that of others in the workplace. As literature suggest, having a noisy workplace, which Samantha Soprano creates, does not allow other employees to concentrate on their duties (Mak & Lui, 2012). Resultantly, people who operate in such work settings take longer time doing tasks that they could have otherwise completed within shorter spans. Furthermore, the fact that Suyong Song rarely talks to others in the workplace hinders her contribution to teamwork, which is identified as one of the essentials to the accomplishment of complex tasks (Rousseau, Aubé, & Savoie, 2006). Overall, the social behavior results in less output per unit time for individual workers, especially those who do not know how to cope with noisy environments. The social problem also creates a non-conducive working environment for the employees. For example, repeated talks of the love for guns that Bradley Bar engages with others has the potential of creating a feeling of mistrust between himself and his colleagues, which does not foster healthy workplace relationships, as do the off-color jokes that Samantha Soprano is fond of making.

Ethical Problems

Ethical standards are critical for modern workplaces as they did decades ago. The ethical issues identified with Ned Notes and Charles Cleft have financial and legal implications respectively. First, because Ned Notes spends most of his time watching online videos, he does not have adequate time to concentrate on the delivery of his duties. Instead, he may find himself rushing through the assigned tasks with the intention of sparing some time to watch his favorite videos, which has negative implications for quality and quantity of the output during the working hours. Likewise, Charles Cleft’s ethical problem of having a sexual affair at the workplace means that he does not have enough time to concentrate on his duties because he would rather use most of his extra time talking to his girlfriend. Apart from the productivity implications of his behavior, Cleft risks attracting legal scrutiny to himself and the company alike, especially when his girlfriend’s spouse and his wife shall find out about their secrete affair. The company could face legal and public scrutiny, for example, to understand its commitment to ensuring ethical standards in the workplace (Miner-Rubino & Cortina, 2004). Overall, the ethical problem affecting the two workers could culminate in unwanted financial loses for the company.

Conclusion

This problems report has identified a number of issues with the newly acquired staff at Makin Melodies, which would be important for decision-making by the company’s CEO. While the problems are diverse in their potential implications for the health of the organization, the discussed ethical and social issues culminate in potential financial problems for the company. Precisely, the problems collectively lead to reduced levels of productivity for the employees, create unfavorable working conditions in the workplace, attract legal attention, all that have financial tags attached to them. Apart from the professional value of this report, its development underscores the importance of planning before writing.
