Introduction : The greatest generation survived the greatest depression and also took part in world war two. They are titled greatest as they are identified by Brokaw as the individuals who fought because it was the right thing to do ( Brokaw, 2004, p. 4). They were not after fame or recognition and were very loyal to their country.
Body
The greatest generation is distinguished due to their ability to uphold personal responsibility. To this generation personal responsibility was highly cherished and they felt as though it was an honor to be accorded any responsibility (Dhaliwal, 2015, p. 12). As a result, great leaders were created such as Art Buchwald and Arthur Schlesinger.
The greatest generation entails people who valued integrity. They valued what is honesty, doing the right thing, and being kind. Integrity was their way of life and it is due to this character that they were able to serve and filled a void that was in America during the war (H. Lloyd Wilkerson; Major General; U.S. Marine Corps, 2020, p. xx).
Another major lesson from the greatest generation is their great work ethic. To them, work was their only means of survival (Rose, 2013, p. 7). This is why the entire family was working for America for example if the father was working in the war the mothers would be working in munitions factories.
Conclusion . The greatest generation had the most committed people in the history of America. They have passed down their values of upholding integrity, taking personal responsibility, and practicing work ethics. Their impact and contribution to the economy and success are always appreciated in America. Their lessons should be a guide for other generations to achieve greatness.
