Learning climate variables

The learning climate variables which increase student motivation include a good physical setting of the learning environment, a friendly learning environment, and instructional effectiveness of the teacher. The physical setting of the learning environment should be such that it motivates students to learn (Brophy, 2013). The learning environment should also be friendly in the sense that a student should be able to form a positive relationship with both students and teachers. Lastly, there should be instructional effectiveness to enable the student to understand what is being taught. This helps to motivate them.

Instructional variables

Instructional variables which enhance motivation among students are subject knowledge the teacher, teacher skills, and human relations. A teacher who has adequate knowledge of the subject he/she is teaching their students acts as a motivation to the students. This is because adequate subject knowledge enables a teacher to teach students well and in a way that they can understand (Snowman & McCown, 2011). Teacher skills in terms of teaching are an instructional variable which motivates students. A highly skilled teacher is able to touch the right notes during teaching and this makes students to be motivated. Lastly, the human relations between students and teachers help to motivate students. A positive relationship enhances motivation. Human beings are social beings and as such, they crave for acceptance. When a teacher forms a good relationship with students, the students will feel loved and accepted by the teacher. To reciprocate that love, they would be motivated to work hard so that they please the teacher.
