2. Your Prewriting: With your thesis in mind, perform prewriting.

a. Brainstorm for a list of three reasons your stance is important and valid, and write those three reasons below.

Employment contributes to financial security, which can improve a person’s physical and mental wellbeing, whereas unemployment can be harmful to one’s health.

Employment has been found to improve one’s wellness; it is likely that working reduces healthcare costs by providing health advantages. Working is beneficial to everyone’s overall health and wellbeing since it offers a sense of purpose, encourages independence, allows us to form social connections, and helps us avoid both physical and mental health challenges.

Furthermore, for unemployed people with mental health issues, finding work can be a crucial step toward recovery, enhancing self-esteem and optimism while also reducing psychological suffering. As a result, employment is critical for sustaining strong mental health and aiding recuperation from mental illnesses.

b. Brainstorm for a list of three reasonable opposing arguments others may make against your thesis/stance and write those three opposing arguments below.

Raising the minimum wage for most low-wage employees will result in the layoff of other low-wage laborers, lowering their take-home pay. This is due to the fact that raising the minimum wage will raise the cost of hiring low-paid workers. As a corollary, some firms would hire fewer people than they would if the minimum wage were lower.

Although there is a strong correlation between unemployment and poor health, employment can also be detrimental depending on the nature of the job. Low-paying or unstable occupations, for example, might be dangerous to one’s wellbeing.

Instead of creating jobs and raising pay, there are far more effective ways to address issues like the absence of mental health treatment for poor individuals.

3. Introduction Paragraph Draft

Poverty raises the incidence of mental health issues and can be either a cause or a result of mental illness. Mental health is influenced by a variety of factors, including inequities in people’s socioeconomic and environmental factors. Enhancing the mental health and wellness of individuals dwelling in poverty, as well as lowering the number of individuals living in poverty who have mental health issues, necessitates dealing with this complication. Although there are many approaches to addressing an issue like lack of mental health care for people living in poverty, initiatives, and projects such as job creation and rising wages should be implemented as the most effective course of action to promote immediate mental healing and fulfillment of people living in poverty.

4. Your Tentative Sources: Please create a list of at least four scholarly sources you are currently examining, including those you cited above. Two must be sources that in some way support your stance, and two must be sources that in some way oppose your stance.
