The use of automation and artificial technologies is transforming organizations such as manufacturing, corporate and retail business thus providing a variety of opportunities for them to explore and gain a competitive advantage in the market. Equally, the educational sector is also faced with challenges but tend to slowly acknowledge the use of artificial technology (Cope,& Kalantzis, 2015). Use of Artificial intelligence in schools has greatly attracted attention due to its high potentiality to change the quality of education and supplement traditional teaching Intelligent tutoring programs like Assessment Learning in Knowledge Spaces, ALEKS, cognitive tutor that are provided by IBM Watson are beginning to expand the K-12 education. This paper discusses reasons why universities should adopt the use of artificial intelligence based technology program to help with intelligent tutoring, open response assessments, and analytics.
Intelligent tutoring system is a computer system that is designed to support and improve learning and teaching. Universities should adopt this technique to provide computer-aided instruction in support of the traditional system (Cope,& Kalantzis, 2015). The technology also provides a one to one tutoring in individual learning. The use of artificial technology can also change the goals and purpose for teaching.

Additionally, colleges and universities should apply these systems as it models student's psychological states. When students interact with the systems the program can collect data on how students approach challenges when they feel challenged thus enabling teachers to learn a student's cognitive ability (du Boulay, 2016). Artificial tutoring programs change according to the individual using the program for the improvement of assessments and lessons. A study on a meta-analysis of the use of different ITS systems found that its use was more effective than the use of full-sized teacher-led classes, textbooks and the use of traditionally based instructions. Additionally, those institutions that applied the method of Navy intelligent tutoring system found out that it outperformed the use of standard technical training on tests and troubleshooting exercises.
Furthermore, Artificial intelligence services facilitate personalized learning that is it tailors instructions according to student needs. The technology provides a student with blended learning by providing face to face interaction (du Boulay, 2016). The technology can also improve academic performance and result in reduced achievement gaps between certain groups of students. Personalized learning increases engagement of a student, motivation, and independence. Universities should take up this technology because it provides an atmosphere that is suitable for a students' knowledge level, thus making students achieve fast and permanent learning.
The use of applications such as Brainy that uses Machine Learning algorithms automates and filters spam and low-quality content thus helping teachers provide students with quality services when tutoring.AI also creates a customized content through creating customized textbooks that are specific to students specific courses thus reducing costs required in purchasing of books (du Boulay, 2016). It provides less instructive information and offers more interaction. It enables students to learn suitable subjects for their level in an independent manner whenever they want.
Another reason why Universities should adopt this system is due to changes in job markets. Jobs requiring routine skills, physical and cognitive are reducing. Increased use of automation in factories is also replacing workers (du Boulay, 2016). The adoption of artificial intelligence technologies for example machine learning and computer vision is slowly eliminating high skilled jobs. Additionally, universities should adopt this technology to counter competition. The cost of traditional education is also high, for example in the United States student loan debts have amounted to $1.45 trillion, and most beneficiaries may not be earning enough to pay them back.
In conclusion, the use of Artificial intelligence is beneficial to the education sector due to its various advantages. The advantages accrued include improving student’s performance, preparing students for the job market and provision of individual-based learning. Artificial intelligence has the potentiality of changing the quality of education and countering competition when universities successfully uptake the use of this technology. Students are also in a position of attaining job market needs.
