One of the companies that have been associated with autocratic leadership culture is Uber. Uber leadership has been on the receiving end over a number of scandals in its leadership. The company’s leadership has been critiqued over the issues of mishandling of employees by the top management (Jones, 2006). Various employees have raised concerns over the behavior of top managers in terms of making policies and handling the people. Autocratic leadership has been exemplified by the CEO who faces a number of charges with regard to sexual harassment of the some of the staff.
The issue of gender and diversity has been a major issue at Uber due to the fact that the company faces key allegations and charges of employees being harassed by top management. The top management of the company including the directors has been associated with acts of harassment of employees (Mgbodile, 2004). The harsh treatment of employees at the company has been an issue that has affected the reputation of the company. Through autocratic leadership, the company has managed to make key gains in light of making more inroads into many new cities in the USA, Australia and other countries.

The method that is used in assessment of an autocratic leadership include the job design, the communication methods, manager-employee relationship, work orders, ethical work pratices and observance of human dignity at the place of work. I chose to pick on these six factors because of the impacts they have to leadership performance at the corporate level of the organization (Vliert, 2000). As a matter of fact, organizations that have employed autocratic leadership model may have become successful. However, they also have faced a number of issues in terms of dealing with the issues of human relationships. In the work place, communications and relationships are critical to the overall performance of the company.
The six assessment methods employed in the assessment have a direct impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization according to various literature sources and the Bible. For instance, the issue of job design directly affects the way effectiveness of companies by the fact that employees connect with employers through the way the job design is constructed (Choi, 2007). When items such as communication affect the way people know and respond to responsibilities. Additionally, manager-employee relationship factors also affect the way workers connect with their organizations. When employers and employees are not in good terms, it becomes a challenge for work processes to be done as expected. In fact, this was a major issue at Uber due to the relationship challenges at the company.
Autocratic Leadership theory contrasts greatly with Servant Leadership theory (Johnson, 2014). The former advocates for the leader to govern the people by working as a servant while the later stands for the leader to govern the people through orders. In addition, the former gives the leader the authority to work with others to bring the right results, the later demands that the leader becomes the boss to make orders (Voon et al., 2011). Lastly, servant leadershipaims at building the people as they work towards the outcome, while autocratic leadership is directed towards using or exploiting the people to make gains (Weiss, 2001). Servant leadership is based on the skills and values of the leader while autocratic leadership depends on the power the leader has.
If Jessus was in an organization environment where autocratic leadership is common and accepted, He would work in that organization, but still teach the people through his commitment to service on the need to take on servanthood (Luthans, 2002). Jesus would not judge the autocratic leader, but instead would make effort to teach the leader on the need to take on servanthood (The Bible, 2001).
My personal recommendations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization in this type of culture such as the case in Uber is drafting work ethics code and remodeling the management policy on governance (Houges, Ginnett & Curphy, 2006). I believe these two will play a major role in ensuring that the company comes back into shape. As a matter of fact, through developing a better code of ethics, it becomes easy to deal with the issues of governance. This si critical considering the fact that through when companies have the right ethical values that all leaders subscribe to, it becomes possible tto deal with autocracy (Khan et al. 2015).
Conclusively, its key to note that autoracy thrives in an environment where there are unclear or absence ethical values. When there are no ethical values and principles to be observed by members of an organization, it opens room for leaders to misbehave and act in the wrong way. Leaders running organizations that lack clear policies end up misusing their powers and authority and this leads to chaos. Clearly, there is need to create the right values in an organizational setting that would lead members to find ownership in their work. At the end of all efforts, dealing with autocracy cannot be handled as a one time thing. Instead, it’s a concerted effort that is made through time. Looking into the case of Uber, it is easy to change the autocratic culture through developing the right values at all levels of government.
