For this behavior modification project, the focus is on persons with nonchalant attitude, occurring as a negative behavior, which affects the way in which they relate with others in their immediate social environments. Othman & Suleiman (2013) define a nonchalant attitude as a type of behavior in which individuals often act indifferent or uninterested but in real sense, they tend to show high levels of care towards others. In other words, these individuals often show a behavior that shows their disinterest on matters hat they ought to show some form of interest; thus, creating a situation where it becomes hard for them to relate with others in their respective social environments. In most cases, this arises from a situation where individuals tend to show a ‘care-free’ behavior, especially when dealing with matters that reflect on the manner in which they relate with others.

Target Behavior

The first target behavior that is being considered as part of the behavioral modification process is the ‘care-free’ attitude that an individual within a nonchalant attitude tend to exhibit. Suleiman (2013) points to the fact that nonchalant attitude often brings to floor a situation where individuals tend to become ‘care-free’ meaning that they fail to consider how their attitude affects the way they relate with others. Although it can be argued that individuals exhibiting a nonchalant attitude really care about others, they lack the mental will or capacity that would allow them to show how much they care about others within their immediate social environments. Consequently, this creates a situation where these individuals are often considered as being hostile or unfriendly attributed to their lack of interest in trying to show how much they care about others.

The second target behavior that the project seeks to consider as part of behavior modification is the fact that an individual showing a nonchalant attitude often appears not to worry about anything. Idu & Ojedapo (2011) reflect on the occurrence of a nonchalant attitude arguing that most of the individuals exhibiting this attitude tend to behavior is a cool, calm, and casual manner regardless of the challenges that they are likely to encounter. In such cases, it can be argued that these individuals often show an attitude that does not allow them to worry about other things. Instead, these individuals only seek to show that they are not scared or do not care about the challenges that they are likely to encounter.

Treatment Method

Taking into account that a nonchalant attitude is often considered as an inherent personality, treatment is often confined towards management of the more disruptive symptoms resulting from the attitude. The first treatment option that is often considered when dealing with nonchalant attitude is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which is otherwise referred to as talk therapy. Afolayan & Jolayemi (2011) point to the positive impact associated with the use of CBT arguing that helps in trying to engage with the patient at a deeper level with the intention of trying to examine some of the possible factors contributing to the attitude shown. The use of CBT when dealing with patients exhibiting a nonchalant attitude is considered as being essential considering that it helps in providing the patients with strategies that they would use in coping with destructive impulses. The fact that these individuals often lack the element of care can be considered as being a destructive impulse, which is likely to have a serious implication on the way persons engage or interact.

When going through CBT, patients are encouraged towards speaking out about their feelings considering that this allows for a rather proactive position in trying to get a clear understanding of why the individuals show the behaviors in question. In most cases, this means that it would be much easier in ensuring that the individuals are able to deal with the social and emotional baggage that impact their abilities to show interests towards others. The use of CBT, as a form of treatment, is often considered as being effective when considered as a spectrum through which to create a strategic position through which individuals are able to take about their underlying feelings and emotions.

Another effective treatment option that may be considered when dealing with individuals showing a nonchalant attitude is the use of traditional psychotherapy. A popular psychotherapy treatment approach considered when dealing with behaviors arising from nonchalant attitude is group therapy. Group therapy allows individuals with a nonchalant attitude to interact or engage with others as one of the ways through which to try and understand how to control their behaviors, which are likely to impact their abilities to form productive relationships (Kpakol & OKPU, 2016). The main benefit associated with the use of this treatment option is that it creates a front through which individuals are able to learn the value of showing an element of care towards others. Additionally, this treatment option also helps individuals to come out of their shells with the aim being towards ensuring that they are able to form relationships that they can considered as being essential towards their personal growth and development.

Conclusion

In this behavior modification project, the focus is on nonchalant attitude, which is a type of behavior in which individuals often show a lack of care or worry in different social environments. Often, this creates a challenge for the individuals considering that it becomes hard for them to engage or interact with others considering that these individuals fail to show empathy when dealing with others. However, it must be noted that these individuals often have a high level of care and empathy towards others regardless of their inability to show the same. To help as part of behavioral modification, the two treatment options that can be considered include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and traditional psychotherapy. The two treatment options seek to ensure that the persons showing a nonchalant attitude understand the value of coming out their shells while seeking to improve on their capacities to form relationships.
