Remarkably, advancement in technology has taken us from the old generation of huge computer desktops to laptops and now to the recent technology of a portable tablet. A tablet is a portable computer classically with full LCD touchscreen display processing motherboard, mobile operating system and rechargeable battery in a single thin, flat set. From the look, a portable tablet resembles a smartphone with a bigger screen of seven inches or bigger measured diagonally and may not support cellular data like mobile phones. Therefore, we neither can call it an oversized smartphone, nor can we call it a shrieked laptop; it is a whole class in between merging both sides with its various functions. In addition, with the advent of nanotechnology, laptops, desktops, tablets, and smartphone are equipped with equally powerful RAMs and processors which makes one not to note great performance difference. Hence, only a keen research on other advantages accrued to the device can lead to a choosy conclusion. Arguably, the portable tablet is associated with many advantages and on the other hand still has its own drawbacks.
Advantages
In essence, tablets have vast advantages. To begin with, the portability factor is paramount. Compared to laptops, they are more portable as they come in smaller sizes 7" to 10" while on the other hand laptops only give 11" as the smallest size. In addition, they are a full touchscreen with all functions done on the screen, unlike laptops which have a flip face on the keyboard, therefore, making laptops bigger. Many would prefer having a tablet more than a laptop for outdoor work (Ramey, 2014). Notably, tablets do not even require a carrying bag, the 7" is a pocket size while a 10" can be comfortably be carried by hand.

In addition, it is obvious that current time calls for extreme mobile devices. Therefore the extreme lightweight property of a tablet is an advantage in the current time. Being light weighted supports the portability property which many would go for. Notably, life becomes easier with lighter gadgets as people do not need to carry unnecessary extra weight (Ramey, 2014). This is the reason many will go for tablets than laptops because mostly many uses the basic functions and tablets support it comfortably. The issue of carrying bag is also excluded making life easier with tablets.
In essence, in the current internet era, everything looks nice when digital. This makes tables look awesome in preparation of presentations. The whole screen of a tablet is used as a slide while touching right and left acts like a remote for flipping from one slide to the other. Laptops will at times be boring to present with as they are heavy to hold with the hand for a long time while when on the table moving slides becomes a bit tiring if one has no wireless remote control (Ramey, 2014). This makes it preferable for presentation by both professionals and students because together with being easier to carry, they are also best for presentation.
Unlike laptops which take longer to start up, tablets are characterized with instantaneously boot up like smartphones. However, there is no need to turn the tablet off. It is preferable that it stays in standby mode which allows turn on immediately the power button is pressed. The standby mode consumes very less power and therefore it is a better option (Ramey, 2014). On the other hand, laptops require being shut down which makes them to take longer to resume functionality.
Disadvantages
Although we have associated tablets with many advantages, they also carry have some drawbacks. For instance, tablets have few or no ports at all which disqualifies them to be a complete alternative of a basic laptop because it hinders one from performing some functions that require the use of ports (Martin, 2018). Mostly, all the ports available in a laptop such as VGA, HDMI and USB are not available on a tablet and therefore can act as a hindrance to tablet usage. In many tablets, the only port available is a charging port which offers a few functions.
In addition, the slim size of a tablet also accrues it some disadvantages. There are no DVD or the Blue-ray on a tablet. The slim size gives no space for this specification. However, it has turned up that nowadays even some laptops do not come with this specification and still people prefer them (Martin, 2018). Therefore, although this is a disadvantage, it is really a matter of preference.
To sum up this discussion, portable tablets are associated with many advantages although on the other hand are accrued to some disadvantages. To begin with, they are more portable than laptops as they come in smaller sizes compared to laptops. They are also lightweight which makes them preferred as people do not want to carry unnecessary weight. They are also preferred by both professionals and students for presentations as full screen is used as slides and is easy to flip to the next slide. Lastly, their instantaneous boot up ability is an advantage compared to laptops which take longer. On the other hand, they are accrued to disadvantages. Firstly, they have few or no ports which make them less useful than laptops. Secondly, as a matter of reference, they lack DVD or the Blue rays' slots which makes them less useful than a normal laptop. Therefore, portable tablets carry more advantages than disadvantages and hence are worthwhile.
