First Ms. Stacy sought to gauge child development prior to initiating any lessons for the students. In order to comprehend this, she assigned each student a test so that she could assess their level of education and determine which grades between 1 and 6 they belong to. She also planned by initiating social interaction. The teacher offered social experiences to the students, for instance, having the name of things pinned on the board for all the children to see. The names were to be used by the students when interacting with each other in class. Likewise, she provided physical objects which the students could see and touch, therefore, increasing their level of knowledge regarding pertinent issues. Ms. Stacy further introduced self-regulation by creating rules for her class. For instance, the requirement for all the students to be punctual, ensuring that every student adheres to the ringing bell and also the use of polite language when communicating with one another. Similarly, she directed the students to adjust the changes in their routines and also managed to stop the learners from engaging in less desirable activities. An example in this case is where one of the students mocks her and when she scolds him she apologizes the next day leading the student to refrain from objectionable behavior. Ms. Stacy further took it upon herself to clean and paint the classroom, hence, leading by example. Also prior to learning she introduced a practice of ensuring that the students are satisfied by offering them snacks to entice them. 

The cultural practice at the time of her induction into teaching was such that homeless students had no access to education materials. Since she could not get assistance from her superiors, she sought help from the Superintended who noted her passion and ensured that desks and textbooks are procured for the children at the shelter. Also, Ms. Stacy Encouraged children to share their own personal experiences after sharing hers. This is an incentive which encourages openness and also assists the educator in building a personal relationship with the learner. Correspondingly, there were rules that governed the shelter where she was teaching, requiring immediate ejection of any person found engaging in drug and substance use. As a result, the parent would have to leave with their family, thus, diminishing chances of them acquiring an education. When Maria`s father is found guilty of drug abuse and forced to move out, Ms. Stacy offered to take care of Maria until her father is able to secure a decent place for them to reside. Another plan involved organizing summer school for the homeless children so that she can keep them off the streets despite her not being paid for her work. This is an element that demonstrates the essence of volunteering. Ms. Stacy further involves herself in the personal lives of her students. In one such incident, a mother was fond of fetching her children from class in order for them to do chores at home. Through her persistence, Ms. Stacy is able to persuade her to let her children learn like the rest. Her plan also involved engaging parents. She created a culture of organizing a parent-teacher meeting to seek for their assistance to ensure that the children do homework. She also beseeches them to create a favorable environment for their children by ensuring they switch off the television so that they can study. The teacher also sought to celebrate important milestones and dates. For example, Valentine’s Day where children were able to express love for their parents. Organization of sporting activities for the students, for instance, baseball is yet another way that Ms. Stacy planned since children learn best through play.

In her first day at school, Ms. Stacy carries her album of pictures containing her own personal details and that of her family. She displays the pictures to her students and narrates her holiday experience while asking her students to recount their own involvements. One of the essential classroom materials used is a bell. It served the purpose of alerting the children to get ready for school and Ms. Stacy rang the bell immediately after arriving at the shelter. Maria one of her students later takes up the responsibility of becoming the bell ringer. Reading and writing materials, for instance, pencils are also part of the Materials used by Ms. Stacy. Also, drawing materials such as crayons and paints are utilized by the teacher in class. The materials are used to demonstrate how to draw and also paint diagrams. Ms. Stacy also utilizes a flip chart. She seeks assistance to have some drawings made on the flip charts so that the students can visualize them and learn. There are also storage shelves which the teacher uses to store text books and other learning resources. 

One of the most evident outside resources available for use is a television set. It was meant to showcase videos to the students in order to keep them engaged. Another apparent resources is the small garden created by Ms. Stacy with the help of parents and students so that it could be used for learning. For instance, students could learn some elements such as the process of germination. Ms. Stacy also later got access to a piano. It was meant to engage learners in singing and also teach them how it is played. The gadget enabled her to develop a personal relationship between her with the parents and children. One of the parents even volunteered to teach the children how to play the Piano. Another outside resource is the baseball and its bat. Her husband volunteers to teach her students how to play the game. The activity is engaging and fundamental to learning since it makes the learners more interested in school since they know they will have an opportunity of engaging in the exciting game. 

Ms. Stacy did exceptional work as a first-year classroom teacher. The shelter presented a very challenging environment for learning since there were inadequate learning materials, no desks, and the students were also not structured according to their grades. She had to teach all of them regardless of their level of education. Ms. Stacy proved to be patient despite experiencing a lot of hostility from both the learners and parents. She still came back to work unlike other teachers before her; even after learning what her new job entailed. She is also very persistent. She was the first teacher to tirelessly lobby for learning materials. Even after she was ignored by the appointing authority, she heads to the Superintendent’s office and explains the situation under which homeless students were learning. Similarly, she is also very understanding. For instance, when one of her students declares that they have a stomach ache due to hunger, she offers her own snack to him, and also introduces snacks which encourage learners to report to class early. Further still, Ms. Stacy is very neat and well organized. Prior to beginning her teaching, she ensures the class is habitable by painting it and also ensures that it is well cleaned. Likewise, she is also hospitable since she was always eager to listen to her students and solve their problems. She even housed one of them after her father was sent away. Generally, it is due to Ms. Stacy`s efforts that the learning conditions of homeless people were enhanced so that they can have equal learning opportunities.
